    Question Sticking Throttle?

Tonight, when I was driving home from a friends I booted it from about 60 to 100 mph and when I took my foot off the throttle it just kept accelerating!!! I applied the brake and (as I remember it) the car seemed to still want to keep going for about a 2 seconds before the throttle cut out and the brakes began to bite!

    Any thoughts?

Did the pedal get stuck on the carpet or mats? If pedal was pressed to the floor, it might have caught the mats.

Other one, maybe you have something loose from behind the dash instrument panel that has fallen andlodged near the pedal. I had that once in my Corolla. The alarm sensor unit was sticky taped to behind the steering column and that eventually fell and lodged itself by the pedal and would frequently get stuck.

Not sure about anything else mechanically, but I'm sure the boffins here will be able to suggest causes.

Maybe the throttle cable didn't feed back through the bulkhead properly, or the (warning! non-technical term alert!) springy thingy on the throttle body, where the throttle cable ends, needs greasing so that it operates smoothly. These can be checked visually without the engine running.

It's an idea, I don't know if it's any good though!

Did you have intake hose off the throttle body recently?

I'd check this first - They do occasionally bung up. Mine's never stuck but a dousing with WD40 to clean all the grot out, then a fresh coat of spray grease restored some prescision to the pedal.

It might also be worth checking the return spring on the accelerator pedal hinge?
