    Thumbs up LPG Conversion

Just thought i'd let you all know that i've just had my VR-4 converted to run on LPG, the job was done in manchester and is very professionally finished. The car still runs excellently with just a bit of a slower 0-60. I do about 400+ miles a week and this has made a huge difference in my pocket. Highly recommended. A lot of people said it couldn't be done but it has and i have no complaints(i saw off a saab 95 aero @ ***mph last week running on gas).

Hi welcome to the club .Can you give us more info about the manufacturer of the conversion. I believe only BRC and Prins would have equipment suitable for the conversion. Did they fit a flashlube kit to protect the valves .

It's a BRC system and i'm not all that sure about the flashlube but i fill up regularly at the place where the work was carried out so i can speak to the fitter about that. If you wan to check his garage out for yourself it's called Worsley Autogas centre and if you wanna check my car out then you can if you live locally or maybe at a meet...

Thanks for the reply. Does it run on gas to the redline or switch to petrol when the gas injectors reach there limit. I would ask him about fitting a flashlube kit asap

the conversion cost £2k and took 5 days, i have got a 70 litre gas tank in the boot instead of the donut where the spare goes.

    that sounds expensive.
didnt think it wud be that much.
so in principle wud take me about 12months or so to make it pay off.

if i did more miles i wud do it without thinking.

It's a good price for a brc system but I would rather have the tank in the spare wheel well

The reason i got the 70 litre tank was cos you only typically get 80% of the potential fill capacity with gas tanks so the smaller 40 or 50 litre 'spare wheel' tank would need filling almost every day for me. It is a big wedge to shell out but i'm very happy with it.

I thought they could be done for 1.5K.

Was thinking of having this done if I get a Legnum.

You can buy cheaper systems but they will not be up to the job of supplying enough gas for the engine and you will end up running on petrol as much as lpg. Many of the cheaper systems are not rated to the power of a VR4 and installers end up fitting two vapourisers and doubling up on injectors to try and compensate. This can make a cheap conversion very expensive. There are a couple of RS6's running on LPG using Prins and BRC systems . OMVL would be next in terms of good cheaper systems but I would advise either of the other 2 rather than omvl. None of the rest are able to support the power as far as I know

I have got mine booked in for early August. I was going to do it last year but then changed my mind... but now I am doing lots of traveling to Cambridge and its costing me alot. The quote I got is £1200 (mine is a V6). The fitter said LPG can handle revs up 6000 rpm and after that it switches to petrol automatically. I asked if this can be lowered and he said yes, so am thinking about 4000 rpm, anything above that will be on petrol.

Is the quote for a gas injection system or the old mixer type. Very good price if it is an injection system

Its a sequential injector system... I also enquired for a VR-4 conversion which was about £1400.

Had one of those systems on my old Range Rover but there is a newer version out now. It should be fine with the right injectors up to the redline though.
