    Dog Box ?

Anyone know of a FWD Dog box that will mate upto the 6A13 ?

The FWD box Im running is aan F5M42.

Did someone recently put a set of gears from an EVO into a VR4 box? In which case I could possibly put EVO dog box gears into a VR4 gearbox and plate off the rear transfer output shaft.

Richard, if you ask Bradc or Kenneth, im sure they did it to give the VR4 longer legs in 5th. Gly might be involved too.

The 5spd Evo internals are compatable with the VR4s. But I think an Evo dog box is not compatable with the standard evo stuff, except for maybe the casing!

However, you could be right - the evo dog box gears should fit in a VR4 manual box, leaving the only problem making it FWD.

1,2,3 are different (other way round etc) The rest of the 5 speeders are probably the same. Never noticed a difference taking them in or out. I bet it changes at iX though.

    Cheers,

    Ben.

In which case, the VR4 is the same as the 4 on, but with a different bellhousing.

With the EVO set in a VR-4 we had to get the gears put on to the VR-4 output shaft so that it would match in ratio with the diff.

The output shaft gear on the VR-4 has 19 teeth vs 17 teeth on the Evo shaft. (I think that was the count, if not the difference was 2 teeth)

So the smaller gear won't mesh correctly with the VR-4 diff gear unless you either change the gear on the diff or the gear on the gearset (which is part of the shaft).

    So Basically
It's a Whole lot Simpler, And Cheaper to fit a standard VR4 Manual Box

Nope, cheaper to get the gear set and just swap the shaft. Brad managed to get the gear sets practically brand new for $200 NZD total.

It isn't difficult to get done either, just need to know to do it and take it into consideration when doing the swap.

I'd be gobsmacked if the evo diff doesn't fit. They use the same output shaft and can use the same final drive ratio. Why would the diff be different?

I looked into this when messing with auto boxes and diffs, and I wasn't sure if the evo centre diff would bolt to the VR4 bellhousing, and if the bellhousing was a differet depth (deeper bell housing would reuire longer shaft etc).
Ask Roger Rally on here or on mlr, as he was messing with the evo centre trans boxes active switches on steering wheel to control, change active centre diff on cornering. He was also puting cusco lsd units into evo and vr4 rear diffs. He will probably have all the bits physicaly lying around which would make it easier to work out, I didn't have all the bits to actually confirm what was poss, cheers Louis

Has anyone tried just swapping the bell housings over? I wonder if the actual gearbox casings are the same.

Never checked that ????, I just assumed (oh dear!) that the evo bellhousing (4 cylinder would not go near the V6 engine, I was looking more at attaching the evo box, casing to the VR4 bellhousing, but never found out if the bolt pattern for the gearbox was the same on both bellhousings, hence then thought about the depth of the VR4 bell housing compared to the evo one). Again, I didn't have the physical bits, only photos and drawings which were difficult to compare.
