the n/a v6 has 161 bhp as standard. The magic number i want is 200 without taking the head off and without a turbo/supercharger. How do i get it and who can do it ie any garage, a tuning garage or a mechanic who specialises in galants?

But in his other thread he wants Longevity in his engine and doesn't want to blow it upOriginally Posted by elnevio
Full exhaust system including manifolds, air intake, remapping should do it
Cams and/or gears?
I'm not arguing...I'm just offering an endless series of contrary points of view.

I'd definitely get a bit of Ram induction going on
thats exactly the kind of thing i have on the list brad. Full decat exhaust including manifold which would have the heat wrap on if i can find evidence that it works. Piggyback ecu. Kryton tuned. K&n panel filter (i checked when i bought it, same part number for the 2.0 and 2.5 so it should swap over). I dont know how much difference all this would make though
The 6A12 mivec is supposed to make 200, but it rarely does. You can get those up to like 220 with extractor manifolds, down pipes, induction, full exhaust and a remap, but that is a) rare, and b) quite expensive.
I wouldnt really expect to go more than 185, bearing in mind its likely to not have as much as 160 to start with.
In fairness i dont know for sure 'cause i've never tried.
Cheers,
Ben.
scanny - find out what IBoots (Ian) did to his to 180 - 190ish. Theres a thread on his car, on e-bay, at the moment too.
Another chap (cant remember name) got around 190ish (IIRC) at a vr4 rolling road day - not sure of mods.
And going back to the old skool owners, there was guy in germany called Twist or twister that had a v6 estate that was around the magic 200 mark on exhaust, cams etc and did some quick lap times around the ring.
hope this helps!

im not concerned about cost. I have had the gls for over 3 years and im planning to have the v6 longer than that so im happy to chuck 500 at it every so often on upgrades and since i like how it looks i wont be spending money on cosmetics. I will be looking at stripping some weight though. Anyone can floor it on a straight road but i prefer twists and turns hence the focus is on acceleration and handling
I'm sure it's doable, although you'd probably be wanting a p&p to get there. I'm not sure if the bang/buck ratio would be worthwhile to be honest. With the amount of money you'd end up spending it would probably be cheaper running a VR!

for a start the compression ratio is pathetically low so the thermal efficiency of the engine is shocking, to get any sort of power out of the n/a v6 the compression needs upping quite a bit, also the cam timing is a tad conservative so a re grind is in order, so while the heads are off doing that lot you might as well do a bit of porting.
then of course there's a remap to make al these mods worth while, i would say 220 is possible with being conservative on the mapping front
But he specified 200bhp+ without the Heads being taken offOriginally Posted by psbarham
