Galants registered after 2002 i think
Still here somewhere........
So if I bought a pre 2002 car I'd be safe from the wallet crippling increase?
or a 96 white import

It applies to cars registered on or after 01/03/01. Galants before that are only taxed at the above 1549cc (I think around £185). This is because gerbils on LSD run the DVLA.

yep te last post is correct.

It also only applies to cars that have a registered UK co2 level, therefore non of the VR4 qualify for the tax increases as they were not 'official' uk models, not even the ones brought in by Ralliart
...thats what the MOT tester told me when I had it done recently anyway!!
2014 Skoda Octavia 2.0 petrol Vrs estate
2015 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 Tdi Bluemotion
1971 BRG MGB Roadster
1970 VW T2 Baywindow camper
but uk galant will be, V6 anyway, i doubt they will have less than 225 CO2's
however i have read up and it is only 2006 and younger that will pay the £400ish if over the 225 CO2's and 2001 to 2006 will pay £220ish.
look at the DVLA TAX website
Really? I hope so!Originally Posted by Davezj

You are close Dave about the 2006 thing. The highest band (band L) will be 226 CO2s and over for anything registered from 1 March 2001 to 28 February 2006. However, for anything registered from 1 March 2006, that band becomes 226 to 255 CO2s and their highest band (band M) is 256 CO2s and over.
Band L tax will be £415 in 2009-10, then £430 in 2010-11.
Band M tax will be £440 in 2009-10, then £455 in 2010-11.
So not really much difference.

are you saying that 2001 to 2006 will pay £220ish for greater than 225 CO2's which is the highest band for that period.
and after 2006 is how you have described it above.
which would mean all the guys and girls with galant V6 would only pay £220ish under the current tax situation.
i am just trying to clarify this for them.
there is another thread about this somewhere else and it has already been gone through.
Davezj,

The taxes apply to all cars made after 2001. One of the main concerns with this increase is that people have already bought the cars before this big increase so it's not possible for them to change their behaviour.
Ok, so as I thought - those of us with V6s registered after 2001 will get clobbered with the full whack in band L of £415 rising to £430. While those exact same V6s (Sport and Elegance too) registered before that date will do the £200-ish price.Originally Posted by Johnny_Cashed

I read in the papers the other day that the government take something like £46 BILLION pounds a year from motorists and sprinkles back £4 billion to the road budget.
Correct. All Y-reg and newer galants will come under the new tax system and liable to rates up to £400+.
To clarify:
X-reg and earlier UK galants, and ALL VR4s - £185
For Y-reg and newer, some examples:
V6 sport auto estate:
2009 £300 (K)
2010 £430 (L)
2.0 sport manual estate:
2009 £300 (K)
2010 £310 (K)
2.0 classic manual saloon:
2009 £300 (K)
2010 £310 (K)
2.5 V6 Sport manual saloon:
2009 £300 (K)
2010 £430 (L)
2.4 GDI Auto Elegance saloon:
2009 £300 (K)
2010 £310 (K)
Note the V6 moves into band K for 2009 before moving to L in 2010. This is because they were sold in band F, before band G was introduced, but they would have fallen into G had it existed. All band G vehicles move straight into L or M, but band F vehicles can not move above K for 2009. Confused? So are the DVLA...

from the BBC link above the following is true.
2009, 2010 figures seem to be a little conservative above as the V6 will be in band L from 2009 which is £415 and £430 for 2010.
but i don't see why the DVLA have a 2006 on wards clause in there road tax priceing for this year only to get rid of it next year. may be the BBC figures are misleading, as the all the cars listed in there figures could be newer the 2006, which would make a better news storey, than saying only cars from 2006 are affected by these figures. i don't kow this but it could be the case.
can anyone confirm this. i know the BBC site has the standard message these tax changes apply to vehicles registerd from march 2001. but i am not so sure.

Yes, the direct.gov site is CRAP. It only shows the current tax rates which apply until the end of march 2009. From april 2009 to march 2010 the 2009 rates I gave apply, and then the 2010 rates from april 2010.
For specific info, try here: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-t...px?deriv=18042
I also read somewhere this week that the DVLA themselves are apparently providing incorrect information to around 3 in 4 people about the road tax changes, according to a survey. Don't suppose that'll help matters much...
well which one is wrong.
as i understand it manual V6 is 226 (CO2) and auto V6 is 238 (CO2).
Parkers says
Rates effective from April 2009
Date of Registration 6 Months 12 Months Band CO2 (g/km)
8 Nov 1999 – 1 Mar 2001 £101.75 £185.00 -
1 Mar 2001 – 12 Dec 2001 £165.00 £300.00 K 238
BBC says
BAND CO2 etc
K 201-225 £300
L 226-255 £415
BBC says 2009 £415
Pakers says 2009 £300
Flip a coin and hope for the best.
