Cause for concern??

I have been hunting round for prices on speed delimiters / speed limit defencers and have noticed something a little worrying.

Why can I not find a part listing for 96- models. Most places I have visited have the usual HKS parts list ,

but on this, there is only mention of 87-92 model delimiters!!!


Am I to assume that this part will also fit the 96- models??
INSERT INTO post VALUES (my local Turbo specialists 'PTS' were willing to charge me 200 quid to find out)

May seem a daft question but do you actually need a speed delimiter ?

If I recall the speed in Japan is restricted to 112mph INSERT INTO post VALUES (sure someone will correct me if a little out on that); but usually most imports are de-resricted by the dealers when they sell them as most convert the KMH to MPH at the same time.

Have you actually been over this speed in your car to test if it will do more than 112? If so then you do not need one.

The de-limiter is purely down to the dealer. Depending on the car it could cost up to £500 :INSERT INTO post VALUES (

On our MX5 all you have to do is take off the clocks, and at the back you will see a small brass screw, whit "112 mph" and an arrow beside it, lol, quite funny actually, so all you do is remove the screw and Bob's yer uncle

Exactly, unless you want to do some constant high speed driving in Germany for example, I wouldn't be too concerned of only having a top end of 115ish, just means you can't have any sly mad moments.

The wiring loom is similar to the FTO so the same chip should work. Eurospec 2000 sell the chips for about £50 and its a ten min job to fit. Simply cut 3 wires from your road speed sensor and put the little box inbetween them.

Yes, she does go over 112 mph. Right up to 120 mph and then BLAM. Power gets cut, she stutters and loses speed then at 110 mph it picks up again, accelerates rapid to 120 mph and then BLAM and it goes on and on like this. 4th gear or 5th, it happens everytime.

Granted, we never go over the national speed limit on any given public road ever!! :rolleyes: but it is infuriating to leave pug GTI's standing only to have them cruise past you, laughing, when they finally do catch up.
Equally annoying is, to be following Mr M3 up a long wide PRIVATE motorway, keeping pace until the 120 mark is reached and away he trots...:mad:

Yes I had mine delimited. When I bought it used to cut out at 120mph. It was done by Elite International 01703 863358, It was less than £100. I have to say that subjectively the car lost some poke when it was done.

You can also use an Apexi Rev/Speed meter and the 112mph limit goes of.
I use this item and it really works.
You can have some extra fuctions like:0-100m, 0-200m, 0-400m INSERT INTO post VALUES (1/4mile). battery meter, etc.

You can fit it yourselfe just folow the instuctions diagram.
I did it myselfe and it works fine. INSERT INTO post VALUES (It is conected on the ECU)

INSERT INTO post VALUES (The only minus is that is meters in km/h not in mph)
If you finally by this just ask me to tell you how you will set it to make the speed limit off.INSERT INTO post VALUES (a small trik on the menu settings)

They came to the dealers garage in Alton, Hampshire. I can't say for certain that it made performance worse. Somedays it just seems to go better than others for no apparant reason. It might have been one of those days.

BTW Legnumboy - is your front number plate blocking air flow to your intercooler ? Could be a cheap way top get a few more horses on a hot day.

I wouldn't have thought it would alter/reduce your overall power delivery.. in general.
