    Timing Belt Tensioner Pulley Tool

Does anyone know where to get one of these in NZ? I'm going to get one welded up from a plate of metal and a 14mm nut with some 4mm bolts through the plate if I have to, but it'd be nice if I could just buy one.

I tried that, and got it tighter than just sitting still. I guess I'm just really not confident that I've got it tight enough.

If you're concerned, would a drop of loctite 222 threadlocker give you peace of mind?

I'm not concerned about the torque of the bolt, I'm concerned that the belt is at the correct tension. I.e. I don't want the belt to slip a tooth or something.

Don't concern yourself about not tightening enough, it's only 3 Nm that is to be applied as you do up the bolt and tension against the belt, so more danger of putting on too much!

What a waste of money dude. Do it up tight as you can then hit the spanner with a rubber mallet only once. That should do.
3nm on the belt is not much. I can just get a torque wrench to 220 nm without using extra leverage.
Come around dude, I will make sure its tight enough

Well, I had it as tight as I could get it, and now one of the pulleys has run a bearing and I think the water pump seal has broken again. It seems like I had it TOO tight. I'm gonna wait till pay day so I can get the parts I need to fix it up. But if you'd be keen to have a look Fully, that'd be great. I'm not too keen on driving it at the moment as its making an awful noise, over heating a bit, and running pretty lumpy.

    Lightbulb

I tried this using pliers as well, snapped the end off one of the arms in about five seconds flat. In the end I used a combination of bracket, G-clamp and torque wrench and got it nice and tight, but I had to do it several times to get it to line up correctly 'cause it wanted to turn with the bolt.

My recommendation is pay the $30 and do it right. Maybe you can hire it out to other local members for $5 a go and make your money back?

Sorry to hear of your troubles mate, hopefully you can get it sorted easily

Hey, yeah I have the tool now. I'm actually going to use it tonight.

If anyone in Christchurch DOES want to use it, I can one up the above $5 offer, and let anyone use it for free!

I'm sure you'll find a few members who will want to use loan it over the next couple of years.
I'm not arguing...I'm just offering an endless series of contrary points of view.
