I think the Camshaft position sensor on my v6 sport has had its days. The engine light keeps coming back on after a reset. Where is it located as I may try and replace it myself?

V6 N/A does not have a Camshaft Position Sensor as it has a distributor. It does however have a Crank angle sensor which is located behind the Crank pulley and cam belt gear.
Thanks! Then why do the engines codes say it is a camshaft position sensor problem ? I'm confused.

Make sure your checking code outputs for the N/A V6 and not the VR4 ones.
Might explain it.

The V6 does have a TDC sensor in the distributor. This runs to the same pin number on the ECU as VR4 Cam sensor - maybe worth checking
If your right Andy it may mean a new disy. It could be connections to it though.Originally Posted by The Vee
Indeed. I have a spare if it looks that way and you you want to try it.
Thanks for the help!
Currently the engine sounds occassionally rough on idle, and throws a P0340 engine code.
So are you gents suggesting that the problem is down to the distributor cap needing replacing? Is this anything I can fix myself as I've just spent loads on getting the cambelt changed?
Thanks again,

I suspect that IF it is distributor related it will be more than just the cap. Cam belt change? hmmm That could create some possibilities in itself. Check the simple stuff first though, connections, dizzy cap clean inside, rotor looks good in there plugs to crank sensor etc etc.
yes, done recently. But the problem was there before the cambelt change. We thought changing the belts and sparks would fix the problem, but it made no difference.
That was one expensive hunch!
