    Battery Terminals

    Hi

I have just got a new battery, fits perfectly in the holder and the terminals are correct, however problem is the terminal size, my car had a small battery in with small terminals new battery has bigger normal size, how do you get around this issue buy new clamps and cut off the old ones off of the leads. Any advise apprciated.

Only way to fit a decent size battery.

White Lightning got some from halfrauds reciently.

And did the same myself last year.

just be carefull not to cut the cables too short.

    Indeed I did

And I see Elnevio has already posted a link to the thread ... what a helpful bunch we are

The connectors in Halfords were £2.99. They are not the best you can get but perfectly adequate. Just make sure you cut the +ve lead as close to the old connector as possible as once fitted there is hardly any slack.

The only other thing I want to get in due course is a new red cover to fit over the +ve terminal as I know I can be clumsy with a spanner sometimes ...

I assume you have not had a problem with the brackets to fit then ... ? If you do, I can give you the part number of some L-bolts from Mitsi

Get the bungee cord on - works a treat!!

Although I guess it would be an MoT failure - so the part numbers would prove useful...

Or local motor factors for a universal kit and cut to size.

Has to be cheaper than the stealer option.

If only it were that simple ... that was what I got (again from Halfords). The only bit I was able to use was the big metal bar (cut down) which sits on top of the battery. The actual L-bolts that they supply in the kit are far too long for most batteries and have to be cut down. Unfortunately, you cannot cut down the threaded end so unless you are particularly good with a vice etc a better option may be the dealer. As long as the big bracket on top fits, and you have got one short and one long bolt, all you will need is one more short bolt and they cost about a fiver from the dealer ...

Hopefully, that makes some sense ... but I was waffling
