I'm so excited now! I'll try getting in touch with Mo tomorrow. Anyone got a number for him cos he hasnt replied to my earlier PMs. And where on earth is Wodj disappeared to? Surely he might have some bits...?

Sorry Steve, just it would have been too much hassle trying to get bits sold off and god knows how long it would have taken to even break even with it.

That stuff would be very helpful, and will be in touch no doubt as the conversion progresses.

Thanks Don, I will bear that in mind for the conversion and include it in the specs.

Nick, assuming I/we have all the parts ready for fitting, how long would it take for the conversion to be completed? I only ask as I really would like to make it to the rolling road on the 7th.

No need to be sorry at all! I think you're making a much more sensible choice than breaking it (though I still think the cheapest option of putting another auto in would have been easier - but if you want a manual, go for it!)

Like I said on the phone, Atik. If the parts can arrive, I'll do everything I can to get it working for the Rolling Road.

    LMAO!

Cheers Nick. Just gotta see how soon Mo can get the bits ready.

Also, seeing as my big load carrying estate car is out of action, does anyone know if my Corolla hatchback (with rear seats folded down) would be able to carry all the gearbox parts? I have no idea how heavy or bulky the parts will be and would need to get everything from oop north to the Midlands.

Just make sure the gearbox & the clutch parts are drained when you pick it all up.

And get them forward of the rear axle!

(yes, I know you think no-one would be that stupid, but I've experienced the pant filling experience of trying to take a roundabout with almost no front end grip in a Mk3 escort estate with 3 kerbs in the back.)

I've had 2 vr4 auto boxes and tools in the back of Lilly's Corolla then drove down to Nicks it did not like it and it was a pig to drive but it did it.

So as the manual is lighter than an auto you should be fine.

Thanks for the input guys, and Mo, I'd like the gearbox and clutch parts drained before I pick them up

Also, I would suspect that once the coversion is complete, I'd have to inform DVLA that the car is no longer an automatic. Can anyone confirm this please? I was planning on letting my insurance company know about it anyway, just not sure about DVLA.

Ooh, looking forward to this now. Never driven a high powered manual before, should be fun

And so, the conversion was completed, by the super duper Nick Mann and the equally super duper Richy Rich.

Thank you guys. Feels good to be behind the wheel of a car with an engine! Albeit in one with a manual shift now!

It feels good driving, though it struggles to get into reverse unless the clutch is flat to the floor. I've already got the hang of the clutch positions for the other gear changes.

Anyway, I'm back in my car and it feels good

    Nick and Richy...
