Volvo XC60 Rear End 1 : VR4 Front End 0 - This could be interesting

Well the neighbours bought a new XC60 the other week, it's fitted with the blind spot cameras, lane drift sensors and parking sensors all round. Unfortunately it seems the parking sensors at the rear only work with cars taller than 3ft at the front! With the back bumper sat on my front bumper he apparently had 2ft left to the object behind...that'll be my windscreen then!

So far the damage appears to be :

Bonnet pushed in so it curves up. It has creased at the point where the bracing structure dimples at both sides. Passenger side is worse and has creased the paint on the underside. We had to push it back down in order to open it.
    Passenger side headlamp brackets smashed.
    Grille cracked and fixings broken.
Front bumper scuffed across top and pushed into intercooler. Some damage to passenger side intercooler pipe and possible damage to intercooler and power steering cooler. Will need to take the bumper off to check fully.

There is no damage to his car at all.

He was really apologetic about it and told me to get it all priced up. Once we know what it will cost he'll decide if he wants to settle oustside of the insurance or not. I think he started to panic when I told him quite how rare it was over here.

I'll need to get a LHD headlamp from over here but not sure what to do about the bonnet, grille and bumper. I've not seen a Finesse Green Galant over here and not sure if the normal bonnet is a match to a VR4. Hoping someone here might have a grille otherwise I'll need to order from Japan or Mitsubishi.

Was going to wait for better weather for the FMIC to be fitted but I guess I may as well get it done now whilst the bumper is off.

Nightmare! Sorry to hear this Lee.

Hope it works out ok, and that if it does go to insurance, that it doesn't get written off.

Nev, If it does get to that position I will be considerably upset as I'm fairly certain German insurers don't allow you to buy back your car!

I think the neighbour will be talking to Volvo about the whole thing anyway as the sensors should have told him my car was closer than 2ft! I imagine their response will be that it's only a guide.

All 8G Euro/JDM bonnets are the same and will bolt on. Facelifts have a slightly bigger bulge in the middle, but they will fit fine on your car.

The grill from any German car will fit too, and you already know about the headlights.

for headlamp, bonnet, grill and bumper you can use the regular euro parts from a sport edition EA0.

Thanks for the info folks. Was thinking.....how much would a replacement bonnet resprayed in a bodyshop cost compared to an Carbon one? Not entirely in keeping with my stealth plan but when opportunity knocks.

I'm sure it won't be too much of an issue as long as I can get al the things I need. At least I'll get my finger out and try to fit the FMIC I got last year. Just wish he'd hit the bumper a little harder so I could have got a facelift front instead.

I need new downpipes and 3 engine mounts right now so I reckon I won't have the spare cash to work a deal with him on it. Saying that I still need to see how much it's going to cost him anyway. More than 300€ and I think he'll be going via the insurance.

Could always get a carbon one, but painted the correct colour.....stealthy but vented subtly and much lighter than factory.

Steve, that would be a great plan but would bring the cost up too much.

Good luck with it all, sounds like a bit of a can of worms with the volvo sensors, isn't it worth putting it in to a mitsy dealer garage for a quote, and then working back from there, as I am sure you won't be including your time and labour, there are so many variables like shipping costs if you get parts from elsewhere, a mitsy dealer will have the prices and costs all to hand!, good luck

Can I just mention that, normal Galants as far as I know on the PFL side didnt come with a colour coded grill, so you would have to buy the correct colour coded one from mitsi? Sure they were all grey on normal galants

Am going to take it to a local bodyshop, insurance approved. Unfortunately whilst Mitsi may be able to look for parts for it they don't have their own bodyshop here. Not only that but they don't speak any English, or at least claim not to, and this is something I don't want to fumble my poor German around.

Got some pics at lunch of the damage, most people wouldn't notice I don't think but whilst taking the pics I found the slam panel right by the bonnet catch has been pushed in. It's where the top middle clip fits into for the grille. From what I can gather from my experienced friend it's approximately 2000€ worth of work because German rules state they have to replace anything that got damaged with a brand new part. Now how much does a genuine bonnet cost band new + painting?

Thought I'd add some pics of the damage. Not yet had time to get it to a garage and I'm worried as I think one of the intercooler hoses may be damaged so don't want to drive it far or hard.

The inside edge of the bonnet, at least it crumpled as it's designed to.

And for now that's all I can post as the Uploader keeps telling me it can't upload the files any more.
