Car's front passenger footwell is sodden with water. It's been raining of course. Don't think I left the window down and didn't drive thru standing water. Car does not have a sunroof or roof rack. Any ideas?

heater matrix? have you still got a full pot of coolant in the radiator/expansion tank?
Not sure where the matrix is on a VR4 but imagine it will be above the passenger footwell.

I know that's something which often goes on older model Peugeots and is expensive to fix. Hope that's not the case for legnums / galants.
Common on the old Minis too.
More of a nuisance job than a costly one I imagine.
Was a recall item on the MkII Golf too, I recall! (another bad pun, groan)

Why not become a full member of CVR4 and enjoy the additional benefits membership brings?! Information here.
and very common on falcons! have you been usiing the air con lately? it could be a blocked A/C drain
I would say heating matrix as well. happened to me in an old escort I had never fixed it just traded it in & they never noticed not when I was there anyway.
Certainly have been using the AC. I suppose I'll have to run the AC and see if it is dripping anywhere, or is the drain under carpet someplace?Originally Posted by Subaru ETA
first of all check your engine coolant level, then you will be able to see if it is the heater core.
then you can get under the car and find the A/C drain. i think it is a tube the comes out of the firewall on these cars? someone else can correct me if im wrong.
then get a piece of wire and poke it up the drain and try to clear any blockages out.
correct, it is on the passanger side under the canister looking thing by the ABS block.
About half way down there is an L shaped drain, a cable tie or piece of wire will do the job, once you have done it you'll see the water coming out.

I had this exact same problem on my 6G Galant - only when it rained or going through heavy road spray.
The annoying thing - aside fropm the problem in the first place - was I couldn't trace the lead. Athough the floor was soden, there was no water trail anywhere around the floor. I stripped the carpet back, felt around the area as high up behind the dash as I could, and around the door sills, but nothing, it was just a soggy floor. Using old newspapers to mop up the water, it would eventually dry up, and on dry days - great. When it rained again, the problem returned.
The garage cleared the water channels around the sunroof - they were free-flowing, so that wasn'tthe problem. The inside of the front wings weren't blocked with leaves, so that wasn't it - even the vents around the windscreen wipers were cleaned out, and that wasn't it.
Aside from a wet floor - the car was always running with condensation on the inside which was annoying.
this was a common problem on the 6G. my parents one was cronik for it. they would leak through poor sealing of the windscreen and rear screen. mitsi actually bought my parents one back it was so bad and gave them one of the first 1990 models (apparently they had fix the issue) they owned it for 14 years without an issueOriginally Posted by HMG1K
Yeah, sounds like the Matrix... common fault with FTO's too...
