Question Increasing the sound of optional factory Ralliart muffler?

    Hey fellas,

I'm looking for a way to increase the sound on my factory optional Ralliart muffler.
Some of you may be thinking "just buy a canon or a louder sports exhaust". No. That's not what I want to do.
If possible, i'd like to retain the Ralliart muffler.

I was thinking... what if I were to change the pipe from the cat to the muffler itself and replaced it with a 3" pipe instead? In other words, install a cat back exhaust, without a new muffler on the end and connected the Ralliart one?
Would this result in a louder/more bassy exhaust?

I'm hoping to get some advice on this.

    Cheers

if you get rid of the 2 resonators in the pipe between the cat and muffler then yes that woud make it louder. what it would sound like i have no idea. but it would be loud.

don't you have legal noise restiction over in AUZ.

i have one of those ralliart mufflers as well and on standard exhaust it sounds great.
personally i would not change it if all you are trying to achieve is to make it louder.

    Bye for Now!

The RPW pipes will change the sound to a more bassy sound. Keith certainly found his louder but he has a decat as well

    Wink

    Thanks fellas
Yes, in Australia the legal decible rating is 92.

Pete, more bass from the exhaust is exactly what I want.
I might have to put my name down for the RPW down pipes.

Ages ago someone (can't remember who now, might've been Dan_G?) did this. What they did was cut open the silencer and found out that it's a chambered design with a spring loaded flap that opens when there's enough backpressure.

They modified the design (by using a grinder) so the gas could go 'straight' rather than flow around the chambers - But left the chambers intact. Seemed an effective way of increasing performance and noise just by a little.

Well I can tell you that a 3" downpipes back to the Ralliart box with no silencers sounds errrr quite as a mouse at normal driving, and quiter with your foot down, lot more raspy though, the standard system was louder, imho

It really isnt loud, for having no silencers in there at all, I was expecting earth trembling loudness, but you dont even know its running now, car feels less lethargic aswell, and the turbos make a good noise sounds like its sucking in small cats and children.

Need to get it to a decibelometer(I made that up) and get it checked to see if it needs quietining down, only thing is, it makes so little noise now you can hear it in the cabin, you have put your foot down and you dont realise just how quickly you have go to the speed limit, makes it feel slower with no noise, which is just a placebo effect I think

my exhaust was rusted ( center section) i have to cut out two resonators and replace with 72mm straight pipe its sound almost like it was bit lauder

but i was driving with back box out for 2 weeks and that was nice sound

you cant put just straight bit you will need to use axel bend and bend coming from catalytic converter
