    Carbon Fibre Rocker Covers

    Hey guys.

Got moulding equipment and autoclave, so thinking of doing some carbon rocker covers for the VR4 like this one below from the FTOOC (Not one of mine).

Just seeing what interest there is, before we attempt making molds, not guaranteed this is going to work, but trial and error will hopefully take us in the right direction.

Hoping to retail for around £100 dependent on the cost and time to produce.

Please dont pm as nothing can be manufactured or sold untill I have a trader status, this is just gauging interest to see if worth registering as a trader.

Also Doing powder coating and mirror finish on metals in the engine bay.

with all the engine powder coated with a mirror finish Derek?

The quality from prepreg carbon is far supreme to normal carbon fabric/resin/hardner.

obviously it will withstand 1000 centigrade, hence why it is used to build space shuttles and aircraft, with so much friction on them going through the earths atmousphere. I have seen quotes that Carbon wont stand the heat...

I would just like to confirm it will, hence F1 Cars are made from carbon, and those engines generate alot more heat than any VR4

AH, just saw your other post!, (fto). So, How about carbon fibre evo style bonnets?, wouldn't have to be super heat proof!, any idea how much it would cost.
How about a body shell and wings and doors and tailgate and all??? lol! Then I wouldn't need to do do any more tuning , jeez, you could just run the standard engine in a super light car,?. Could spend the money on CF body parts rather than turbos lol

Using pre-pregnated carbon resolves this issue, its impregnated with a hardner, no resin required. once in the mold (between male and female molds) it is baked in the autoclave to around 400*C.

Once removed from the mold, you have a solid carbon product, no overlay, no plastic or fibreglass, pure carbon.

Will be doing a lot of bits. Just need to see how it goes with the prototypes for SGOHMs VR4 and my FTO....

(Cant wait for my VR4 Conversion!)

Will be looking into all of that. due to size of bonnet, doubt its something we will produce, however, I have contacts and can get them made up. i.e for the FTO a brand new Carbon bonnet £495. Will speak to them about Legnum/Galant

Just wondering, you DO mean engine covers, I take it, not the actual rocker covers?

There's no reason it couldn't be rocker covers.
