    Sticking OS front caliper...

    Hello there,

I have a sticking O/S front caliper. (one hot alloy!!!) does anyone have a decent replacement for this? I'm not really up to servicing it myself and i guess the best thing is to replace? Camskill obvoiusly but that's £100 plus getting it fitted etc...

Anyone? I'm in Nottingham so not sure if anyone near can refurb for me?

    Cheers...

note: What about these? for a prefacelift '97 Legnum VR4:-

    That's a V6 caliper, which won't do for the VR-4.

You might be best off getting the caliper service kit from Camskill and getting your local garage to do the work for you: http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.p...22b0s1397p7669

you'll probably find one of the sliding pins is stuck or bunged up with boiled copperslip. Strip clean and regrease.

Had the exact same problem this weekend. Sorted now, but has moved the VR4 conversion to the top of my "to do" list for this week

    Thanks fellas! What's the 'VR4 Conversion' ?

Would my local garage be OK doing the overhaul with the kit from Camskill. Or would it be better to just go for a second hand caliper or even a refurb via Camskill?

    Hey mate!

Buy the overhaul kit from camskill and get it to your nearest garage. It's most likely that one of the bolts going into the brakepad clamp is stucking. But anyway, the overhaul kit includes evrything to get the caliper to work again smoothly, so this is the best way to go.

A VR-4 brake conversion means to install the brake setup on a non-VR-4. The standard setup is not worth a penny (I have a 256mm disc in my car which has 1.6 tons!!!)

    VR-4 brake spec:
front 294x24mm vented discs and 2 piston caliper (same like Outlander Turbo or Evo4/5 non Brembo)
rear 284x20mm vented discs and 1 piston caliper (same like SpaceWagon N94W GDI 4x4 or Evo4/5 non Brembo)

    Galant standard spec:
front 256x24mm or 276x24mm vented discs with either 1 or 2 piston calipers
rear 260x10mm non-vented disc with 1 piston caliper

    cheers
    Stefan

I'm converting my V6 sport single piston calipers and discs to VR4 spec twin piston calipers and larger discs
