Easter Ring Trip Video - "Chasing Galants"

Apologies for the poor quality video - trying to keep the file size down. Also, the time was 2 hours later in the day than the clock shows.

A higher quality version can be seen here: http://phoney.smugmug.com/gallery/79...14704478_bi9Xi

I recognised the white and red saloons but whose was the Legnum that you overtook just before Foxhole?

One can definitely see the handling advantage an EVO has over the Galant - through the corners. I notice when you passed white Galant that you seemed to be pretty much right on the edge of the track? Was this so or does the vide merely give the impression that the track was so narrow at that point?

The EVO does sound pretty cool at full noise, especially accompanied by the "psssh" sound between gear changes A nice toy indeed - I'd like one for Xmas thanks

It's not that narrow there, but Wayne was trying to hold his line there to keep speed into the next section so I had to go a little wider than normal to pass him, hence why I was close to the edge there. You will also notice when I passed Andy up the hill I hit a rumble strip on the left side to sneak up the side of him too. Afterwards I did apologise for being a little "German" in that manoeuvre.

Ahhh. I understand now Just out of interest - was the White Lightning's VR-4? It was a UK one because of the rear foglight. If so, what is the power difference between that car and the EVO?

Yes the white VR4 was WL's, and the red one is The Vee's VR2

From the RR day @ Eurospec:

    White Lightning __ - 249.5
    Spirit __________ - 288.7
    The Vee ________ - 271.7

    Yep, that was indeed mine

However, it's worth mentioning that the fact Pete (Spirit) passed me so easily was not just done to the extra power. Pete has done the 'Ring on a number of occassions and has driven a lot more laps than I have. Not sure exactly how many but it's a lot more that the 26 that I have driven.

As a result, he knows the lines much better and as a result is much quicker than I am around the track. In particular, on this vid, chances are Pete floored it coming out of the left hander before and probably kept it planted over the rise whereas I was still tending to ease off a little there as I am still learning the track.

I had one lap that proves my point perfectly. I caught up and passed a 911 GT2 half way around the lap and he couldn't keep with me ... but on the same lap I was then caught and passed by a standard Pug 306 and I couldn't keep up with him! This just proves that to a certain extent the car is irrelevant, good lap times around the 'Ring are more to do with the ability of the driver and there knowledge of the circuit.
