The japanese have managed this. It's no where near as artistic & relies on a camera trick of sorts but it's impressive - I've also seen it done with interior door panels on a car but I can't find that one yet.
The art student with the Skoda is just ripping off the guy who makes public utility boxes 'invisible', and has been doing so for a good few years. It's not displaying one ounce of originality or indeed talent, just plagiarism pure and simple, and it certainly ain't art.
Rant over, I'll just slip back into obscurity again.
