    I should have bought a GT-R really

In this video, it is clearly MILES better than a VR-4:

    http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9289

The Skyline always managed to get on the power earlier exiting corners than the VR-4. Added to that... the two VR-4's could not get ahead of him (bar one, temporarily, who subsequently lost his place again).

25+k car v`s a 3k car.... there was not enough in it to justify the extra cash!.

    And GTR`s are bloaters!

i`d take a VR-4 thanks and spend the other 22k on having fun!

Have to say that despite thoroughly enjoying the clip...there's a couple of things that need to be said (which is what I think Wodj is getting at):

    1) It's easier to follow than the lead
    2) The GTR took it back no problems. The driver wasn't the limitation...the car was.
    3) Not tracked a VR4, but I suspect, as Wodj says, there's a bit more in the corners available
    4) VR4 brakes really are poo: there was almost as much time braking as accelerating...more on some bends.

Definitely think the VR4 is more than a match for that GTR, though...and with more power and better brakes would piss it, and be more practical. Would like to see the AYC REALLY working against a GTR......but we'd need to find somone suicidal.

I could be wrong, but I *think* Simons car was relatively standard at that point. I don't remember him carrying out any major mods - Pete did that later in the cars life.

Even with 100bhp plus extra, the liner was not able to breeze back past. He had to wait for the main straight and 100mph plus to do that.

Surely if the VR-4 is a "slow in, fast out" car it would have performed better when exiting corners? Always seemed to me that the Skyline had the leather on the VR-4's when it most mattered: straights, power delivery on corner exit?

The discussion is a Load of Tosh..

The 2 cars are not comparable !

And whether the Vr4 was winning or the Liner ? Does it matter.. I t still doesn't prove that either car is better than the other.. !

But i'm pretty sure if the the Driver of the R32 swapped seats with the Driver in the R34 it would have been a complete different video..

The R34 would have dissapeared into the distance and the R32 would be trailing the Vr4 by some way also

And Steve ! As for "What Wodj Says" ? I said nothing

Sorry but I call bullsht on that. People compare them all the time and why not? Both are AWD, 6 cylinder petrol powered engines with roughly the same engine capacity and roughly the same capabilities

Actually WODJ, you're right... one can't really compare the two. One is built using decent parts the other is built using purpose built performance parts.

One is designed to go fast, the other is be a utilitarian car with some decent power and handling.

I understand why they can't really be compared.

If that Skyline did have 400hp and the VR-4 had 280hp then I think that the VR-4 did extremely well, especially considering the extra room and comfort, etc.

Ryan, imagine my car on the track vs yours, you would get slaughtered. We are talking about a bigger power gap here compared to the skyline.

All this thread proves is that VR-4's are the underrated performance bargain of the car world and are every bit as good as any other over hyped jap car (ie skyline)

Now if it was compared to the fastest Japanese cars aroung a track I wonder what the result would be? I'm thinking a final facelift manual RX-7 or an NSX Type-R

You can't really compare any two cars on track, even if they are the same car.
The Skyline driver may have been a track novice, new to that track, got small nads, been saving his tyres/brakes, got a technical problem, etc.
Whereas the VR4 boys had been there before and were obviously gunning for the GTR.
The GTR driver may have also backed off to have a play ?!!?!?

This is also one of the problems you get with trackday etiquette - people compare and make assumptions, instead of getting out of the way of a faster 'outfit' and getting on with their own driving/enjoyment.
