Help! rear suspension Arms

see attached ASA pic

item 41617L and 41617R.

when you grab these arms they can be easily rotated towards the front of the car and then to then towards the back of the car, around the length axis of the arm (and bolt 41604), with almost no resistance.
There is no play in the ball joint, and no up, down, or side to side movement about the bolt 41604 just this twisting.

this is with the car on the ground and in the air.

is this nomal, as it seems far to slack for my liking.

Thats the rear toe control arms. I had mine replaced recently for exactly this reason. Camskill sell genuine OE parts and they were about £65 each IIRC.

Apparently, most VR-4s with original parts have this problem but they should be changed really.

what are yours like now. do they still rotate. or are they rock solid.

If I remember correctly, they still rotate a little bit but are a lot tighter.

I can't check at the moment as my car is in the paint shop.

It's normal! On all my cars, I could rotate them with bare hands...

You can rotate them with your hands- there should be resistance- but the key is if there is actually movement in the joints.

the 4wd's all rotate quite freely, the 2wd ones are rigid, i have to say the 4wd ones fitted to a 2wd do make the handling more responsive

i know there is an small element of passive rear wheel steering to the VR4.
i suppose when you think about the wheel geomitry, it has to be this arm that dictates the angle of steering. So the main arm in the rear suspension at the bottom keeps the hub in the same place in the up down plane of movement, and this arm pulls the front of the hub slighty in to the car as the suspension is loaded up. which turns the rear outside wheel in a bit to help the rear end round the corner.
It makes sense, and to do this the arm has to be able to rotate otherwise the suspension would lock up and not move past even a few degrees of compression. but as stated above these arms should not be all floppy.
so i will have to replace them at some point.

VR4's arms is exactly the same items as 2WD... Same part number... All Galant/Legnum range use them apparently...

not according to my mitsu dealer, or the part numbers on my car. all my 2wd's, jap and uk ones have been rigid, yet all the vr4's here have the rotating arms

Well, that's might be true about jap and UK...?
On european FWD's those are rotating... Checked my Turbodiesel for some time ago and was just about to replace them, because I could turn them around... Then I checked N/A V6, I had at that time, and it was exactly the same - that's why my conclusion was, that it's was normal...
And checked CAPS yesterday to be sure before I wrote - the same p number...
