Just out of interest, why does the top one have a seal but not the bottom one ?
And what does the seal do ?
Pins are different front to rear. I would say the seal is a bush to stop the pin rattling
DOH! Sorry Peter is of course correct - I managed to look up the front!Originally Posted by peter thomson
And I agree with your explanation of the top bushing.
Neither my local dealers nor Mitsy UK have these.
So, my problem is that the lower pin is slightly bent due to being cross threaded by some pillock who last changed the pads
( ME. )
So, I managed to fix the thread in the caliper last night. Have heated the pin to cherry red and put in the vise to hopefully be straight when it has cooled, but can do this 2 or 3 times if necessary. Then I'll put it in the lathe and try to take off any high spots with a bit of wet and dry. Then re-assemble with nice new grease.
Should be OK as a temporary fix but if anyone disagrees then please post up.
if it's made from hi-tensile steel throw it out, heating it up will have dramatically reduced the structural integrity of it, and will just bend in some areas and shatter in others, if it isint ht should be alright as a temp.
i have no idea what its made from tho sorry
Well it worked fine, pin was straight when it had cooled, cleaned up a treat, fitted fine. Caliper was just as good as the other side.
I strongly suspect that it is HT but I plan to replace the rear brakes very soon so it will do for now.
