    Uprated Intercooler Kits

Is there any interest in bigger intercooler kits?

As those of you at Japshow will know, I have just finished producing a prototype kit using a 600x300x76 core. It retains the original hard pipes complete with no need for cutting, so the stock could be fitted again if need be.

It comes with a new power steering cooler, that plugs in exactly where the old one did, but is relocated to behind the drivers side fog light.

Everything fits fine without interference, and the only mod that you have to do, as i had to do with the greddy kit, is to cut away a small section of the crash bar in the corners due to the width of the core.

Anyway, kit will come complete with everything you need to fit it. Price is going to be around the £350 mark, which is a damn sight cheaper than the greddy kit.

Here's a couple of pics of it fitted to mat's car:

Ignore the crappy mounting brackets, they were just there initially to hold it up.

Hopefully I should also have a hard pipe kit done, in various materials, soon.... So watch this space.

So here's a list of interested people:

Gareth - I didn't look at Mat's while at JapShow, but how much space is there between the new IC and the rad? That is where my ATF cooler is mounted, and I'm wondering about the clearance?

Where abouts is your cooler situated? There is a fair bit of room between it and the a/c rad but whethere there is space for a cooler i dont know. It should be a doddle to relocate it to the passenger side by the fog. I'l get some dimensions for you later

It's attached to the front of the rad near to the top-right of the rad as you're looking at it. The cooler is about an inch thick. There is like 3-4 inches to the intercooler.

Could you please explain me the benefits of hard pipes?

And definitely interested to buy one of these sets however how much needs to be cutted from crashbar?

And what would be the core quality?

Does that kit fit both facelift and pre-facelift cars Gowf? (there is a difference in the IC inlet hard pipe)

The hard pipe kit stps flexible pipes flexing.

Stating the obvious, I know! As far as I understand it the benefits are small but basically the pipes do not expand under boost. This should allow a small decrease in time for a certain boost pressure to be reached .

There may also be other benefits, but I guess they are even more insignificant? My understanding is that hard pipes give a better visual impact than performance upgrade.

The intercooler is a different story though!

What a good idea. Looks very interesting. I've been looking for a simple to fit kit for a while now as I'm sure others will have been. Those Greddy kits are ridiculously priced.
So, let me get this right:-
you're providing the intercooler, replacement pipes, clips & mounting brackets for the new IC, a power steering cooler relocation kit, all specifically designed for the VR-4..... for about £350 Sounds like a bargain to me. And I've just paid £AAARRRGGGHHHH!!! for an intercooler alone.

I wasnt aware of the difference. Do you have pics of the fl pipes? are both sides different or is it just the drivers side?

So as you can guess the answer would currently be no, but im convinced there would only be some small modifications required to make it so. What i may need is guinee-pig!

Oh and yeah, the kit will come complete with everything to fit it, so IC core, mounting brackets and bolts, silicone hose, a s/s pipe, decent hose clips (mikalor style) and a copper power steering cooler. You use the standard PS cooler mounting bracket to mount it on to the chasis leg.

I don't have pictures right now, though I am sure there are some about... ill do a bit of a search.

Just the drivers side is different. It is a bit longer and bend to the passengers side and upwards. As a result, you have a shorter (on the standard IC) soft pipe with only one bend in it.

Well that also depends on the material.... s/s is the initial idea, but you never know, there may be means of using something far superior.

I'm just trying to make things a bit cheaper for people, because having spent an absolute fortune myself on things like the cusco hard pipe kit, i know that its just not justifiably for most. So hopefully it should be considerably cheaper than that.

We'l just have to wait and see though. Should start mocking things up end of this week. I tell you, its great being unemployed!

Ah ok, im looking at the stock IC at the moment with the hose attached, i think i can see what you mean. So the hard pipes ends up facing upwards? This would be an issue, but im sure i could fab something up to do it.

Actually, if there is someone with the stock fl pipe then that would do if i could borrow it for a wee while.

Cheers for that Ken, looking at it, its not going to be easy to create something that will utilise the stock pipe without any modification. It may be a case of creating a new hardpipe, which would obviously increase the price of the kit, but hopefully not too much.

I'l look into it, and Mark, i may just take you up on that offer!
