ralliart version was the UK new version
Don't think any VR-4s were officially Ralliart ones from the factory. I think the JDM ones had various Ralliart bits as options - suspension, back box, etc.
Even the UK ones were still imports. Ralliart UK imported them for Mitsi UK, changed the badging (on the Legnums, to Galant), but still pretty much only converted the speedo, chucked a plastic ring in the fuel filler neck and bunged a foglight up its bum.

Why not become a full member of CVR4 and enjoy the additional benefits membership brings?! Information here.
Doesn't KiwiTT have a Ralliart VR-4? If so, I believe it came from the factory with adjustable suspension as well as a Ralliart muffler or something.
Hmm, maybe that counts as a Ralliart car then, but I thought it was just option-ticking (including badging - and we know our Japanese friends like car badging!).
But, I would have said a Ralliart car is one that was actually taken by Ralliart, and upgraded in-house by Ralliart - e.g. like the Pro-Drive Imprezas, or more extreme - Brabus Mercs?
Brabus is not in-house Nev!

As in Brabus have taken it in-house.
there is no such thing as a 8th gen ralliart vr4,
there are ralli art part options from the factory,
exhaust/center console/suspension
but there is NO REAL ralli-art vr4

I am not using the term 'in-house' in the context of manufacturers. I am using it for when another body, be it owned by the manufacturer or not, takes a vehicle, and upgrades it in their own vision - thus applying to manufacturer-owned outfits like AMG and M-Power, as well as privately-owned firms like Brabus and Pro-Drive.
Brabus have taken a Merc, upgraded a load of bits to make it quite a bit different. Thus it's a Brabus Merc. AMG have done the same, thus it's an AMG Merc. The 'Ralliart' options were just added at the Mitsi factory. Ralliart didn't take a VR-4, upgrade a load of stuff, then put it on market as a Ralliart VR-4. They just made a few GFBs available for owners to choose, that Mitsi stick on in the factory.
Unless I've misunderstood it?
But isn't that what the term "in-house" implies? Brabus is not "in-house" in the same way that Alpina is not "in-house" to BMW.Originally Posted by Nev
In-house means exactly that, developed and sanctioned by the parent company by its own tuning company (which is owned by the parent). M-power and AMG fall into this category.
Brabus do not carry the Mercedes Benz moniker simply because they are not developed within the auspices of the parent company. The fact that no Brabus ever wears the Mercedes emblem is testament to this.
If you look at any Alpina BMW - the BMW badges... where are they? *woooosh* Gone!
Correct!
Hence I have now explained that I was using the term 'in-house' differently to the usual implication that you have illustrated.
URghh... didn't read properly. Too many beers.
I'm off to bed
and back to the ralliart question!
mine came with the ralliart suspension and centre console. they are just "tick the box" options when the car was first sold new
Enjoy your kip!
I am unlikely to be using the term 'in-house' in this way again, to stop the rise of a) confusion; and b) pedantry!
Anyway, this has wandered a little OT - has the original question been answered? Were there any official Ralliart models? Or was it just Ralliart add-ons at the factory/dealer?
as said before - no offical ones. you could just get add ons when you purchased the car
ok sort of understand cause i was reading on piston heads that the ralliart ones came out with tein adjustables from factory and mine has got them in it so was just trying to find out
tein has never been an option, its aftermarket
I'd love to see that thread and all of it's misinformed posters!
quote from our buyers guide.
Built by Ralliart Japan between 1996 and 2002, the Galant and Legnum (estate) VR-4 was based on the Galant V6. Additional power came from a pair of small, efficient turbos, one for each cylinder bank of the 2.5-litre engine. This brought output up from around 160bhp to 280bhp, with 2671b ft of torque, which made driving the VR-4 an altogether more exciting proposition. The engine itself was made more robust with an improved oil system and lowered compression ratio. The intention was to add plenty of power without losing the engine’s silky smoothness, and careful matching of the turbo characteristics to the motor largely ensured this.
now i'm confused
