    Kieran: Did I mention "GLS".

I had standard cars like yours before, and I always firmed it up, shocks etc., like you are doing.

PS: I now have 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer ES

We work to live, and to live is to drive a VR-4, around corners at speed. But it costs see here

The mushroom thing is the thing that causes the problem in the first place. Nitrogen leaks from that mushroom thing into the brake system, any vehicle fixed shouldn't have one.

Any news on progress of repairs? My VR4 has been parked at Kirk Motors in Newmarket for 2 weeks now. I'm told it could be another 6 weeks until the parts arrive and the problem is fixed. Bummer! I'm on the bus now and getting fitter! Such a hassle though! At least Mitsubishi will pick up the tab! After a blown gearbox and this, I'm just wondering why I ever bought the damn thing!

Mines all done. Took 4 days for the install. Donnithorne Simms handled the recall here. Did a top job on my car, very clean and tidy install, brakes are very strong compared to how they were. :-b

Something about the seal and the screw piece that holds the pump to the tank.

Easy to fix, just a matter of taking a part off then replacing it. :-b

I thought the fuel tank issue was on 2000 models manufactured between March and August? I have just bought a 2000 and this recall repair had been done.

But it is under another recall - number 311 which is excessive play in the lateral side arms. It goes in on Tuesday to get this sorted.

When you next go to Mitsubishi get them to check your rego in their new computer system. It gives you service history on the car ( at Mitsubishi dealers) and shows recall repairs that have been done and ones that are pending.

    Recalled

    Hi guys,

I havent been online for a while but have decide to keep my VR4 afterall.

Mine is one of the recalled 1996 VR4's and boy have I got a story.

I first heard about the recall on the morning news and decided to stay home until Mitsubushi opened to find out if mine was one. When I spoke to their technical department, gave them my chassis # and evrything, they said it wasnt one. Six weeks later I get the perverbial letters after my wife 8 months pregnant had been driving the car for 4 of those six weeks. Booked it into Kirk on the shore to have the interim fix. get there after getting a 26km over ticket and after taking the car for 10 minutes tell mine was 2 off 40 they had done that coundnt have the interim fix. will be 8 - 10 weeks before the parts come in from japan. 2 weeks later get call from Kirk's saying the car is fixed i just about fell over. i double checked with the guy on the phone to check it was fully fixed he said yes parts had come in.

Go to pick up car and check again that it is fully fixed yes was the answer. get home and there is a message on the phone from kirk saying are we happy with the interim fix. this is after trying the brakes on the way home and them not working. My wife rang kirk the next day to find out what was going on because as far as we were concerened the car was fully fixed. the guy she spoke to didnt even know what had been done to the car and had to ask someone else. so at this point i have taken the car off the road and am waiting for the rest of the fix. also i am drafting a letter to Mitsubushi NZ with my total disatifaction as to what has happened.

Kirk Motors don't have a good reputation. I was told to avoid them. So I did.

    My only 2 options given for VR-4 servicing were;

    Ralliart NZ in Penrose
    Auckland Motors

I have since heard about Olsen Developments

Incidently "Auckland Motors" did my "Interim Fix" and it works well. I would say it will be faulty workmanship at "Kirks".

The "interim fix" stopped the Nitrogen intakes into the brake feeds.

They should have bled the entire brake system, removed the nitrogen intakes and then recharged the Brakes again.

I suspect a "Clever" mechanic thought about this interim fix and passed the info onto the Mitsubishi Management teams. I believe the "manufacturer" wants to play it safe by replacing the whole system, just to be really sure.

Donnithorne Simms did mine in 4 days. Can't understand why it's taking the guys up North so long to get the cars sorted. Donnithornes are humming through them down here.
