    A Gumball like rally

Right you can all call me nuts But I thought of this last night after watching Gumball 3000 & a thread that was put up about the Irish one .

I was wandering if we could do something like this next year. My thoughts were something like Landsend to John O Groats or the other way round or ideas welcome.

Obviously this would mean people taking a week or so of work to do this as we would have to do some sort of stages etc.

I thought if we could get this going that we could get sponsorship & give it to some good cause.

Also it doesn't have to be just VR4s as we could invite other clubs as what has been done on here before with people advertising events.

Its maybe a long shot but I thought I'd throw the idea out there & see what people thing.

Wow good luck with this mate, this should sort out the boys from the men.

This really would need some sorting out.

what about as a club one member starts at lands end and another finishes at john o groats and other members drive a distance in between, a bit like a cvr4 relay team

A relay could be a good idea !

Love the whole rally idea, but don't forget if it was a convoy (6 or more cars)type arrangement you would need a licence (for each county I would imagine) ? Another option could be what TG did a couple weeks ago and have staggered starts from point A to B, and you have to average a certain speed.....would avoid the licences and also keep people within the speed limit ?

Thats an idea westy but thats only 3 cars ideally if this was to happen I'd like more people.

Thing of the publicity the club would get.

It would just be in Britian Pete but thats what my thought are about average speeds.

The relay thing could work so people did'nt have to travel the whole length of the country unless they wanted to.

Only other thought is how would it work as a relay unless we got other clubs to compete?

The licence thing was just this country mate........(I put county not country ). By law in England (not sure about Scotland) you need to have a licence for any convoy of 6 or more cars. These are issued by the local police/council for the area it's being held.....so no idea how this works over such a distance

Yes it is but if we were to go the relay route then most would miss the ones in England & Knockhill.

The track days may be a bit expensive as its been discussed on here before we'd be talking a couple of K to hire the track.

looks like you could be on to something here Andy.

If you need any help down in the county of Lancashire I think that their might be a few people down here that would lend a hand.

I would relay from the Cheshire boarder to Cumbria if the days were right.

On a Gumball type race/challenge theme that could be done interesting, I have a couple of friends who are doing a challenge drive, London to Stelvio (Italy) to London in under 27 hours in a modified Octavia VRS this weekend, all for charity of course...

Cheers Keith I may take you up on that if this go's ahead.

I'v done a bit of research & the total miles from Landsend to John O' Groats is 843.2 but thats all motorway & duel carriage way which may be a bit boring.
There must be some twisty roads that are on the way that some of the locals could suggest.

My thoughts were to brake it up into 4 stages for example

    Church Cove to Birmingham 279.3miles
    Birmingham To Carlisle 195.2miles
    Carlise to Perth 142.9miles
    Perth to JohnO' Groats 230.2miles

We could break every one up in to teams of 4 cars & have average speed times as suggested by Pete (Spirit) & at the end who ever has the best time wins. this may get round the licence thing that Pete brought up as it may break everyone up.

    As for the charity aspect.

After looking at the other rallys (Gumball,Scumball & Screwball) To enter you would have to raise at least £250 through sponsers & you could put it to a charity of your choice.

    As for when.

I thought next year in between some of the other event as in maybe Japfest & Japshow or later in the year I'm open to suggestions.

Let me now what everyone thinks & who's intrested & we could take it from there.

I think this could be a real laugh
