Generally although grooved and drilled rotors offer better cooling, they tend to wear pads down quicker and have tendancy to warp/or crack easier.
However most top end supercars tend to use drilled and grooved rotors today so maybe today's methods have solved the cracking and warping problems of yesteryear. Still will wear pads down quicker though IMO
why fix it the right way first time - when excessive swearing can occour when it all goes wrong when you don't?
Now with 5.7 liters of V8 muscle

Would you believe I just bought and installed these very discs. Before that I had a pair of the drilled disks from cam skills. I wouldn't buy them again as they cracked like mad. (got some pics that I'll post up later)
The thing I liked most about the 3G ones is they are only dimpled not drilled all the way through. Whether this makes any difference I don't know yet, they've only been on the car since yesterday lol. I've got some pics to put up hopefully tonight..
For the record, I've got ferrodo sport pads at the front which go brilliantly with the discs..
Driling discs is a major no no. Even with radius edge holes like some of the top end brembos they still crack. Dimples are a much better idea. The warping thing isn't true. Plain discs warp more then grooved ones. The flat face doesn't give anywhere for the heat expansion to go so they often go pringle shaped. The grooved discs effectively have a zig zag surface when looked at in cross section and allow the disc to expand perpendicular to the face then shrink back square when cooled.
But do discs warp at all...
Urban fallacy...?

The "Warped" Brake Disc and Other Myths of the Braking System
by Carroll Smith
Myth # 1 – BRAKE JUDDER AND VIBRATION IS CAUSED BY DISCS THAT HAVE BEEN WARPED FROM EXESSIVE HEAT.
They don't warp from excessive heat...very often. Mostly people with "juddery disks" can simply get the faces machined by a very small amount to remove the pad deposits, and all is well.
HOWEVER!
Heating up the disks with a couple of 100mph heavy braking sessions, and then coming to a stop at a set of traffic lights on a hill WILL warp them. How do I know? I managed to warp mine very badly doing exactly this.
They won't warp from heat alone...but if they're really hot and you clamp them hard when stationary...THAT will warp 'em
I had mine on the lathe trying to machine the deposits off. It wasn't until I started the thing up and the totally eccentric disc popped it's way off the clamp and through the air about 4 inches past my head that I was truly certain it was warped. It's not even that visible, but you try running the lathe round it and theres about 3mm of deflection. Nasty.
That said: I would describe these circumstances as extremely unusual.
Not wanting to open up long discussion in this thread but what you seem to be describing IS putting braked pad deposits on discs
Using brakes straight after track session - discouraged but causes same problem
Its the deposits that cause sense pf warped material not the metal discs that have warped...?
thanks everyone.....so do the discs get a thumps up for price n quality???

funny you should say that. I did buy some caliper paint at the same time hoping to get the stuff on, but striking posties saw the end to that idea.Originally Posted by dreamer

Cheers Nas. The hardest part was getting the old bolts off. There's enough skin left under the car to make a pair of trousers..
nice1 keep us updated on how they run ...)
