best bet would be to take both pipes off matrix and using hose pipe flush it out with lots of water this should fix it if it is indeed blocked. Obviously if its really blocked theres nowt left but to replace matrix. Another thing you could check is the motor on the airbox, behing the glove box to make sure its working when you crank the temperature up IE opening the flap properly.

    1) Check your coolant level
It can get low on these with no warning and the first sign is your heater staying cool.

    2) Airlock

    3) Blockage.

As far as I can see, it's on the passenger side...

Excellent. I will be fiddling in the dark with a torch in a bit turning heaters on and off to see what moves then will report back.

One more thing. Can someone please reveal the mystery of what the hell that black convoluted flexi pipe is coming out of the bottom of the climate control unit on the drivers side that doesn't go anywhere?

This pipe supposed to go up to the back of the clima ECU... If it doesn't, temperatures can go quite cwazy

That could be the source of the problem then. Any pointers on where the climate ecu is i assume you mean the actual back of the control panel assuming the ecu is combined etc. Going to have a look now

Yeah, the control panel is called clima ECU in the mitsi books...
Take panel out and get this pipe on before doing anything else...

the pipe goes over the back of the vent that goes from the front of the climate control display to the back. the bit with the little lined grill over it. shine a torch in to it and see it goes nowhere.

    Bye for Now!

Found it, there is a long plastic stub on the right of the clima ecu, pushed the pipe well on. Did some testing on the journey home just now. The lower temperatures on the display are giving more heat now and it had stopped doing the thing where it puts out hot air for half the journey then suddenly blasts out clod air. (and no it's not on auto when this happens). tried both auto and manual on way home. Still no where near hot enough. I suspect a jammed up matrix as the higher the fan speed the cooler the air gets.

There isn't really much air blast either. I am used to getting in a car and on full blast being able to really feel air charging out of the heating vents. I have to put my hand right up to the vent to feel anything. I don't think the distribution vents are working properly. Sometimes fiddling with the distribution button over and over suddenly causes something to move and air starts coming out of the two vents in the dash centre, where normally nothing comes out of them no matter where the distribution is set.

Is there a self diagnosis mode where the clima ecu can show the servo response and figure out whats not doing its job. The alfa has something like this and you can recalibrate the motors etc.

I've got a MUT-II and it can do stuff like that... But without the tester, don't think that it can be done

Check if servo motors doing the job. In the driver side, there's servo motor for air direction. See if it's working as well too...

I'll try and do a servo check today before it gets too dark. No room in the workshop at the moment so i'm working out in the rain lol.
