Sounds like a rough day mate but like others have said don't give up. We all have bad days when we break stuff and sometimes hurt ourselves. Just have some time away from the car mate and come back to it fresh.

And just to add, I know exactly what you mean about ball joint rubbers. I always seem to damage them when I use a splitter. Nowadays I just factor in replacing the rubber if necessary and make sure I have a spare rubber up front.

Quick question - are BJ rubbers readilly available and what is the design? Do they push onto the BJ housing (a press fit) or do they use a spring clip in a groove?

can i make a suggestion carl, you really need to use a lot of wd40, for a good few days before you tackle a job like this, unless you are really lucky and everthing is already loose. you will need to spray the baltjoint on the hub carrier, the front and back of the driveshaft where it goes through the hub, spray back of the hub where it joins the hub carrier. personally i would do this for a week before attempting the job. just be carefull not to spary the disks and pads.

this will make the much easier. i did this when i changed the front drive shaft and took the bus to work for the week and evrything came apart real easy. left for long enough wd40 does get in to all the nooks and crannies. i spayed once in the morning and once in the evening. but with you situation even spraying every half hour for a day would probably do the job.
hopfully this will much reduce the hammer finger contact time.

here is a tip for you as well, when the hub carrier is off and you want to remove the hub from the carrier.
    1. support the hub carrier so the hub is face down with hub free to move, ie when bolts undo the hub can drop off the front of the carrier. i would suggest 2 bits of wood or metal, or the jaws of a big vice would do.
    2. undo the hub bolts about 1mm each.
    3. leave the socket on the back of the hub bolt. give it a wack.
    4. repeat 3 for the other hub bolts.
    5. spray with more wd40 if needed.
    6. repeat 2 and then £ for each hub bolt .
    7. hub drops of carrier.

    easy.

    Bye for Now!

use proper ball joint spliters that have enough balls to brake then , do not use cheap small ones as they never work very well

Glad to hear it Carl, good on you for persevering. I felt like chucking it all in at the weekend and then I had a good session stripping one of those wing mirrors. Now I've even written my first article!

it was a cheap one but it did fine yesterday when i stripped the brembo setup of the donar car and started well today but flaked on the bottom one to the side of the drive shaft not the one directly underneath i never got round to that one also while i am here how hard are they to bleed?
