Camber adjustment/kits

Well,

the day finally came when I had to say goodbye to the 19inch rims on the car and settled for 17s... I mentioned it a while ago but 35 profiles, heavy car, bad roads, resulted in alloys taking a battering.

I bought some Lenso 17s and gone to 225/45s and replaced knackered shocks to gas uprated KYB shocks to fit/match the 40mm lowering springs. The ride is superb the car now corners firmly and remains level.

I was wondering if any non VR4 owners have lowered their cars at all... (I think Scots Ian has?) and if so if they used any camber kits/bolts. The 19inch tyres were eaten raw fairly quickly as the car rode on the insides edges of the tyres. Since then I have had tracking redone/changed wheels tyres and shocks so am running with this for a while. Will see how the tyres fair over the next few months.

Until then there are just a coupla pix showin the old 19s and the new 17s which take some getting used to but they are growing on me...

i have lowerd my 4cyl galant,but i'm looking to change the set up i have,also ritch w has just lowerd his V6,
ive had it lowerd and with the 17'z (federal 225/45/17) for 15 month's and ive had no prob's with uneven wear my tyre's are looking the same depth all the way across,to be honest you would not thing they were that old!
i check the presure (32-34 psi) every week and get my tracking checked every 3 month's(as ive got to bump up a kerb to get in my drive)

Thats good news then, hopefully with changing shocks wheels and getting the
tracking looked at, I wont get the tyre wear I saw with 19s.

I understood that anything lower than about 30mm may start to introduce camber / uneven tyre wear issues.

I looked at eibach springs too.. what are they like? is that a 40mm drop too?

eibachs are great mate :-b - because they are progressive, i found they actually improved the ride going over bumps / potholes / crap road surfaces etc etc.
they are a 30 - 35mm drop so the car looks "right" - takes away the standard 4x4 type stance!!!

i had my geometry checked out 500 miles after lowering the car and everything was within tolerance.

i'm going to get checked again soon.
even tho it was within tolerenace the tyres were pretty worn on the outsie before lowering.....

A mate of mine has some blisteins with eibachs on his 7 series and they
make his car handle like small car .. I guess if I have to change springs
then I will look at eibachs

met you at Japfest with Pete (spirit) those new rims are a knockout...good looking rim and a great colour too...they really lend themselves to both the shape and colour of the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggon.... as for stop spending... erm!!!! forget it mate it's an occupational hazard with Mitsies..specially VR4's..... :wiggle:

BTW really like those wheels - i think the galant really suits a dished alloy (like the 5 series does) looks hard as fook!!!!

Hi Ritch..

In the bimma world, eibach and blisteins are THE only tried and tested combination it seems. They work very well together and sold as a package
at many BMW tuning/modifying specialists.

I guess that there is a mitz galant blistein replacement? I haven't checked?
The cyclinder housing is usually a giveaway that these last forever! Like the
diameter of a coke can! LOL..

I think you should go for eibach with blisteins m8..u know it makes sense :-)

Glad you like the wheels. I prefer the 'old skool' look with gumetal/black finish and polished dish. Most of the new wheels have spokes that are too close to the edge of the rim, with my parking and the kerbs around my way, I did not think it wise getting those.

Since the new backbox I had fitted monday (may post in exhuast section) thats it for mods until 2005! ... I think :-)

Polar I know what you mean about spending.. Whats it been like with the VR4?


I've still not tasted the VR4 experience yet! Maybe its best I don't at the mo.

Cheers for that.

Those prices are fantastic considering how good their products are. For the waaaagon I was quoted 79+ vAT for fronts and 112+VAT for rears for mitz parts. (The rears having this self levelling characteristic)

I decided to go with KYB again due to the PI springs used.

That Motorsport World site is good, they have a huge range of manufacturers.

I can tell you have the spending bug too! :-)

RITCH id say that price is BRILL i pay'd about £100.00 for my boge rear's! it's not that boge are a bad make (as any one with a german or swiss car will know) but if i could have got (never thought?) the billies i know what id have picked,as ive had 1 or 5 old ford's billies are always first choice..
if i'm right, they have only (last 1/2 year's) started supplying for newer car's as the demand has died away for the older classic type car's..

Hi remember me? Lost my account when the site crashed and it's taken me this long to get back on. Just to remind you, I was asking about suspension upgrades and decided on Konis and Eibachs which I ordered from Motorsportworld at the end of April. Springs arrived but this week (after 2 months+) was quoted another 7 weeks for the Konis, so my advice is don't bother with Konis. Have now ordered Bilsteins which should be here next week. Unfortunately the guy who was going to fit them cheap has sold his garage, so I am getting them fitted by local dealer while they do the recall check. Cost for fitting £200 . I'm also getting the towbar removed - someone on here wanted to see if it would fit his VR4 (Wir something?) - will post pic this weekend, if still interested.

Finally wife bought me a new reg plate for my birthday - M1TSU went for £2500
at auction yesterday, mine is close but cost £250.. no it's not M7TSU that had gone, so had M11TSU, but found a good one, by the way, M6TSU is available still.

Shocks have now arrived so will be fitted on Friday. Can't wait to see how car drives. Mentioned to guy at Motorsportworld that there were a number of people on here thinking about the Bilstein/Eibach package and suggested he offered a discount for a bulk purchase of 5 or 10 sets, but he hasn't got back to me yet. Anyone interested?

Will also take pic of tow bar before it's removed, think it was Wirdy who was interested. Also I've just ordered a 1/24th scale kit VR4 estate off Ebay which seems to be the only plastic or die cast model 8G Galant available anywhere in the world. It was pretty cheap, in fact I think postage was more than the item. If anyone interested I'll give you the guy's email, I think he had more than one.

I have the PI psings / KYB sports shocks combination and that works so well
too. I don't think I will be changing these just yet :-)

Thanks mate. I've got a long drive dahn Sarf planned on Saturday, so if things go to plan I'll be able to give a good test. I wouldn't have thought the discount would be huge, but better than nothing. I thought maybe if he got a discount for bulk orders, he could pass some on and get some easy sales.

It's a shame there aren't other scale models available, I thought there would be a there seems to be plenty of choice of other Jap cars. Might take a while for me to put it together as I never was very good at them and usually ended up with it glued to the table. An R/C would be great, but a metal model would be good, don't think one exists though. I used to have a 1977 Fiat 124 Spider and a firm suddenly bought out 4 model variations of that, so you never know.
