    Lightbulb HELP NEEDED re WHEELS

    Hi I need some help,
I own a 2.5 v6 sport and the tyres need replacing and the wheels could do with a refurb. I was told to look on the Lancer Club web site as the owners of the Evo's usually change their wheels to 18"+ and flog their old 17" wheels for resonable prices. I was looking through the site last night and noticed they are all 5 stud and the v6 sport is only 4. Can you change the hub to fit the wheel or is this a silly idea? I do not know much about the wheel set up and there was alot of technical questions going round such as load wait / spacers ? ? ?
The v6 I own has had nothing done to it and it apears to me that the space between the front wheel and the arch is massive and does not look right I thought about going for bigger wheels but someone suggested lowering the suspension. . . Any comments on what is best ?

    Welcome!

The VR4 is 5 stud, but all others are 4. I think the evo 1-3 had the 4 stud pattern, but after this changed to 5.

Bigger wheels are always an option, but increased rolling circumference leads to a likelyhood of speeding without realising it. Lowering the suspension is also done a fair bit. 30mm seems to be the area most talk about.

Try doing a search on suspension and wheels - it is all talked about a lot.

    Nick.

You need wheels we can get you wheels

As to your question on wheels, I can sort that out as i help out at a alloy wheels shop. I will need to know your car's reg and maybe a few other details. You can email terry@customfx.co.uk with these details and i will sort you out some pictures of alloy in 18's - 19's and prices including tyres and locking wheel nuts.

OK in answer to some of your questions:

1)This is not a silly idea as such, it would certainly do the job but you could be looking at £4-500! I would discount this option also because your insurance company may not take kindly to it!

2)Fitting bigger wheels should not reduce the gap in the wheelarches. As you increase the diameter of the wheel you should also reduce the profile of the tyre to make the overall diameter the same, if you dont as Nick says you will end up speeding but also your handling may be affected.

3)Lowering the suspension is the way to go to reduce the gap, insurance companies will like this option a little better than the changed hubs, but I would still then go for different wheels and tyres.............in fact I have!
