    How much do I need to drain and re-fil the gearbox sump?

    Just draining and refilling the sump takes approx 5-6L.

    But there will still be about the same amount again in the gearbox internals, hence the need for a proper flush and refill using around 12L. Otherwise you'll have a mix of new and old ATF.

    I'm trying to work out if my bearing noise is my gearbox or transfer box, the best idea I could come up with was to drop the oil and look for bits of metal.

    Unless someone more skilled can diagnose?

    You are best to make a new thread for it. I'd tend to suggest dumping the transfer case oil is easier
    If I'm replying to your thread and helping you out, it is because I like you and want to help out your VR-4 ownership. No other reason
