Actually I reckon you could use that in the UK if the indicator was around 4 times faster. Several busses are now running around with "bulb simulation" patterns running on their LED lights (so the middle cluster come on, and then the outer ones) and the indicators do something similar...from the middle out. If they're approved, then I don't see why this should be a fail if the indicator ran at a fast enough speed.
Hmm...food for thought: thank you.
Swinks - what you were saying about EU regs requiring orange rear indicators in the UK......all Opel (Vauxhall) Astras ship with white frosted rear indicators, so how can that be the case?
I'm fairly sure they retain these frosted white rear lenses in Europe too.
Here's the upcoming model....
Okay, so it might get revised before it hits the dealers....but here is the outgoing model in both EU and UK spec:
I reckon they got you unfairly, dude

Hi hi hi... orange bulbs in old Astra models, innit?Originally Posted by Turbo_Steve
New Astra model on display has stop lights on, so how can you tell what colour are indicators .

In which case, yes, I totally agree, although you can definitely get an orange flash out of a red lens. It's not the RIGHT orange, I'll admit, but I think it will generally pass an MOT.
That's true for paint, but not for light.Originally Posted by 1JZX100
With light red + green = yellow
The problem is that a green 21W bulb shining through a red lens will be pretty dim.
21W worth of green LEDs might do the trick though...

the idea i am toying with is from back in the 80s. i cant remember which car it was, either the scirocco or quattro in white that had stripes across the tail lights which gave them the appearance of being white from a distance. providing the stripes are not too thick and the gaps are big enough i dont see why it would be illegal

Er - yes. Also used on the Austin Metro!! (!!!!)
It'll work, and it'll pass an MOT.....but I'm not sure what the taste-police will make of it!
thats why i havent done it to the saloon. i ditched the ugly orange bulbs but stopped there. i dont like lexus style and carbon just doesnt go with a light coloured car. i learned to live with the saloon but i really dont like the legnum tail lights
You know that Mitsubishi did some "Facelift" tail lights.....not sure if they put them on the GDI, but they're a lot better looking than the standard ones.
Though they all look a bit BMW to me?
forget the GDI mate
