Hi first time VR4 Legnum owner here.

    Hi, Just brought a 1997 vr4 legnum,
So far had it for a week and the radiator has split on the top where the plastic is.
Besides that seems to go alright.

Welcome - unfortunately that it is a reasonably common problem. The only solution is to replace it.

VR4WGN might be able to hook you up with a replacement. Changing the radiator is very easy to do.

    Hi

    And WeLCoME

This is a fairly common fault And is thought to be caused as a result of the ridgidity of the Rads top hose and worn engiine mounts! Resulting in an exadgerated twisting movement of the engjine exerting unwanted pressure on the plastic upper of the rad.

I just sold a spare radiator I had last week for the exact same problem!

VR4WGN will be able to help you out, if not there is always one or two on trademe. Make sure you get a VR-4 one that is about 30mm thick, not a 4 cylinder one which is only about 15mm thick.
If I'm replying to your thread and helping you out, it is because I like you and want to help out your VR-4 ownership. No other reason

Got a new one off trademe

Silverdale Radiators only $269 not bad!
Still getting my head around the tiptronic drive, seems to like drop down gear like engine braking in a way prob to do with the INVECS-II system.
Will post pics when the new radiator is in.

It will drop down from 4th to 3rd if you're freewheeling on a downhill. I find it better to drive in tip mode (changing the "gears" yourself).
