Acceleration? Top speed? Around a circuit? on a drag strip? To rust?

overall comparisons
The 8G is better in every way. Comparing a 7G Manual Galant to an 8G Manual Type V Galant (the closest overall in mechanical terms)
1430kg 1460kg
177kw 206kw
309nm 363nm
The 7G has 124kw per ton, the 8G is 141kw per ton. The 8G also has 5 stud hubs as stock so easier to fit better wheels, brembo's, etc. You also get a more modern car with a better dash and the option to get a wagon version
Moving to Auto versions, the gap is even wider. The 7G auto is a straight 4 speed auto with no tiptronic option, while the 8G auto is obviously a 5 speed tip. I don't know if the 7G auto's are as unreliable as the 8G auto's though. Anyway, specs are:
1460kg 1500kg
158kw 206kw
309nm 363nm
Now the power per ton is 108kw versus 137kw. The 8G will be able to make much better use of the power as well because of it's 5 speed auto.
If I'm replying to your thread and helping you out, it is because I like you and want to help out your VR-4 ownership. No other reason
The 6G manual is 177kw and 304nm, and weighs 1410kg, it's power per ton is 126kw. The 6G auto only has 154kw and 294nm while weighing 1430kg, so it has 108kw per ton.
In short, the 6G and 7G will have similar overall performance, with a slight edge to the 6G because it is a bit lighter. The 8G is simply streets ahead compared to all other VR-4's.
thanx guys,just wanted to know
Thats just numbers brad
Real world comparisons they aren't too different. Plus there is a bit of your personal opinion sneaking in there too.
1994 Galant VR-4, 6A13TT conversion 230kw atw
2000 Legnum VR-4, Daily driver
1995 FTO GPX
By the same token isn't there a bit of your own 7G personal opinion sneaking in there too? Numbers may just "be numbers" but they do at least give a slight indication as to the differences in this case, 6G, 7G and 8G.Originally Posted by Goku

Not really, I know that the 8g has a tad more power, but it is also a tad heavier.
Plus the 7G has an LSD and the 8G does not, which is better for cornering (Aside from the AYC model).
My opinion of the 7G isn't at all why I'm stating that some of what he has said is opinionated rather than real world fact. You can't say the 8G is that far ahead, and yourself saying that there is too large a gulf between them, that's just bollocks. You guys seem to have a pretty high opinion of the 8G over the 7G, but then you don't drive both do you ?
I have, and had done on a fairly regular basis. A 7G is still faster than a Legnum VR-4, which isn't very hard, however it will still keep up with an 8G VR-4 pretty easily. I used this information to come to the decision to have the best of both worlds for my car.
Yep, the numbers don't lie!
The only things that my personal opinions may have been coming into it are in regards to the dash and thats about it really! The 8G is clearly faster too. What 8G are you comparing your 7G to, a full list of mods on each car would be good
Stock for stock, bar the exhaust on mine at the time.
Both manuals?
Yes, both were manual
You also said "The 8G is better in every way" again personal opinionOriginally Posted by bradc

The 7G has 124kw per ton, the Legnum is 135kw per ton.
Conclusion - stock for stock the Legnum should be faster. Either you were the better driver or the 7G was 'healthier' than the Legnum, the Legnum may have had much heavier wheels, a pod filter or various other things.
Was completely stock, It only had 17" as a mod, which mine also had at the time.
He may have been not quite as good a driver, but then My brothers Legnum also feels and seem slower than my Galant (Before I put the Link in it) and his has only done 65-70000 k's, also manual and running on 17" wheels as the only mod.
Before I had the link in my car, he could just keep up with me, afterwards, there was no comparison.
I used to quite often keep up with other 8G VR-4's, but then I don't know how they ere running, but still by your logic they should have smoked me.

I didn't say "the Legnum VR-4 is very slow".
All I said was a lighter more nimble (barely) car is faster, how is that biased ?
