It's just the name for the eighth generation Galant platform in a station wagon body shape.

Or does changing the badge make it a whole new vehicle?

It is an 8th Generation Galant with a bit rear end. Everything infront of the A pillar's is the same and to all intents and purposes even the floor pan is the same. Remember also that as mentioned above, the Legnum was only known as a Legnum in Japan, in every other country that 8G wagons were sold, they were badged as Galant, witness the UK, DE and NZ for a start.

You're just jealous that there was no wagon version in your slower 7G VR-4
If I'm replying to your thread and helping you out, it is because I like you and want to help out your VR-4 ownership. No other reason

True, but the VR-4 was never sold as a Galant wagon

Interesting how easy it is to get you fired up when I'm just messing round with you

The Sports GT is probably the closest model from that generation.

They do pull 13's easily and can get into the high 12's without much effort. With what mods he does have, it would do a low 13sec pass and with better tuning a high 12. About 12.8 at the lowest with out upping the boost to 16psi.

having never been in a VR4 or a 7G galant i cant comment however, surely using the official 0 - 60 and top speed figures would settle the arguement? there are all sorts of variables surrounding a straight drag race but i would imagine mitsubishis own release figures would be the more reliable comparison between the cars as they would eliminate the variables altogether

These are all stock figures brad - of course the stock car is going to be more powerful and better than the generation it has just replaced, if it wasn't who the heck is going to buy it?

There's a guy in the south island I'm sure Goku knows well that frequently gets E84A TT VR-4s into the 12s easily, and usually with the standard mods (ie 3" exhaust, bigger FMIC, more boost, pod etc). His best was a 12.6 on a car which I think cost him less than $6k all up. This is what the 7G represents the most - bang for buck where the 8G can't really match that (purely because of the big increase of up front cost for the car itself). Even the E39A can't really match that as you pay almost (or more) what you would pay for an EC5A, but most of the E39A's for sale have been toyed with anyway.

Oh yeah and the figures you quoted for the E39A are for the bloated road going Evolution model (ie what mine is, leather interior, full air con, sunroof etc). If you really wanted the best E39A (well E38A actually) it would be the RS Evolution, they make the same 177kW and 304Nm but weigh up to 150kgs lighter due to usually no air con, wind up windows, no 4WS, vinyl interior trim etc.

PS where would the EC5A be if it weren't for the E39A and E84A to lead the way? perhaps it would be no where as near as good as it is without these two.. perhaps that fact alone requires you to pay a little bit of respect towards them

I did say with just the basic mods, so exhaust, intake a upping the boost to 12-14psi. I would like to see a legnum vr-4 do a 12sec pass with just that done to them lol
