    Picking up Carbon Bonnet today!

Going to pick up my Carbon Fibre bonnet later today from Don (Xanadu detailing) so if anyone on route between Southampton and Milton Keynes area from around 3.30ish then give me a wave!

I shall be in the Roanne red Legnum.

Yes it does fit in the boot of a leggie.

We are on the 2.30 ferry, so once over on the mainland around 3.30 we are going through to milton keynes before picking it up so we should be up that way around 5-5.30?

So I picked up my bonnet yesterday from Don (Many thanks) Nutter_John was also there and it was great to meet them both.

This may surprise some members but as the picture below shows you can get 2 bonnets from a Legnum in the boot of a Legnum, Yep I did say "2 bonnets".

The top one is Kinger`s GRP which I must say is extremely good quality. Then mine is underneath still wrapped, you can`t get both in with packaging.

What a day though, booked the 2.30pm car ferry got there no 2.30pm ferry so had to wait till 3.00pm, not that bad but put us back by half an hour.

Journey was great hardly any snow as expected went and saw another friend up that way then headed off to Don`s.

We got there around 8ish and left around 8.45 or so. The ferry had been booked for 10.30pm this had been moved to 10.15. We had 1 and a half hours to get to Southampton to catch that ferry plus of load Ben`s bonnet before doing so.

There was exactly 138 miles to go.

    Now the fun begins!

We get down to the M25 and go anti-clockwise bloody average speed cameras were the road works are and guess what? No one working (what a surprise) go round a little further the same again.

We then get down to the M3 and to my horror yet more average speed thingies how annoying. By now it`s around 9.50, 25 minutes to do the M3 (not looking possible).

To be honest I did`nt really rush as there was no point. We got down to Southampton at 10.45 and had missed the ferry, no surprise there then.

There was no one around and that was the last ferry until 1pm according to there timetable. There was life so I asked if that was the case, reply was yes it is 1pm.
Tried to access Wightlink through my mates phone to see ferry timetable, not available, we call home to see if that`s just his phone and no there site had a problem with the timetables.

The decision was made to go through to Wightlink as it was only 11.10 so we thought there had to be a ferry for midnight.
Off we set round the M27 and get to Portsmouth, 2 cars waiting, we thought great!

Then we see that the ferry is not until 1pm so it read. Then there was a message saying it wont be running until 1.30pm because of re-fueling, just great.

By now we were starving as it was around 11.50pm so we had a burger from outside the passenger ferry, a burger at midnight is not my cup of tea.

Another decision was made to head back to Southampton ferry as that was at 1pm plus I did`nt have to pay again if we caught that one. So of we toddle back to catch that one.

We get there for 12.50pm and the ferry is running Now that was the 1pm ferry it takes an hour so that`s 2pm by the time I got in to bed it was 2.45pm or so.

OK I took the Roanne red Vr4 and here is the following cost:-

Before I left £45.00 filled up.

While we were up near Milton Keynes filled up again which was £35.00

Get back to Southampton yet another refill of £30.00

Then the price of the ferry which was £27.20 (Good price)

Fuel situation left in the Vr4 quarter of a tank. Total mileage covered 411 miles

    Fuel consumption who knows.

The moral of this little tale is get a courier to do it for less and have the bonnet broken in the journey somewhere. or do it that way and know it gets home safely!

Epic journey indeed. And have to agree that sometimes its worth doing the mission yourself for the peace of mind that you will get what you wanted and not some crumbs of what you originally ordered!

Now just waiting on pics of the bonnet fitted, cos Roanne Red is the coolest colour ever!
