    8G Galant engine swap?

    I am currently preparing to perform engine on my 2.0 Galant, but like to know more about the work before I actually do it...............

    1. Had anyone ever stuff the 6A13 2.5 SOHC engine into a 2.0 Galant chassis?
    2. What difficulties will it encounter?
    3. Does ECU swaps necessary changing from 6A12 to 6A13?
    4. Any changes necessary to the original F4A42 INVECS-II transmission?

    By the way, I am focusing on the possibilities of engine swaps other than 6A12 MIVEC or VR4 or EVO 4G63. There are several engines which fit to 8G FWD Galant around the world:

    Euro spec:
    6A13 V6 SOHC 2.5L
    6A12 V6 SOHC 2.0L

    US spec:
    4G64 L4 SOHC 2.4L
    6G72 V6 SOHC 3.0L

    Japan spec:
    6A12 V6 SOHC 2.0L
    6A12 V6 DOHC 2.0L MIVEC
    4G93 L4 DOHC 1.8L GDI
    4G94 L4 DOHC 2.0L GDI
    4G64 L4 DOHC 2.4L GDI

    There might be more engines possibly fit in 8G Galant, and thats what I am asking about. Hopefully someone can help me out with it.

    You could try the 6A12 V6 DOHC 2.0L MIVEC. Have a look at various FTO sites to see the specs on this engine.

    6A12 V6 DOHC 2.0L MIVEC is an exact replacement to my 6A12 V6 SOHC 2.0L, no modification required, just sit the MIVEC engine into 2.0 chassis and put in the FTO ECU then everything works like its a 8G Galant VR-M (Japan spec). Here in Taiwan FTO parts are easy to get, since we can ship them from HK and Japan directly, put in the MIVEC its no challenge at all.

    I am actually interested at put in 6A13 SOHC 2.5L engine into my 2.0L chassis, as far as I know, the F4A42 INVECS-II transmission is an exact match to both engines. The 6A13 SOHC bottom is identical to VR4 6A13 DOHC bottom, the top is possibly same as 6A12 SOHC parts. I see that throttle body and airbox are identical between 6A13 SOHC and 6A12 SOHC, only I did not know if ECU is identical as well?

    Since MIVEC, 6A13 SOHC, 6A12 SOHC all use F4A42 INVECS-II transmission at same gear ratio and final drive, the topspeed are all limited at 215km/h, I don't really see MIVEC advantage on slow curve roads. The 6A13 SOHC should top out with 22.2kg-m/4000rpm vs 20.4kg-m/6000rpm from MIVEC, with max torque coming at 2000rpm earlier, it meant more acceleration, so 6A13 SOHC is faster than MIVEC in 0-100km/h. The MIVEC should beat 6A13 SOHC after 4th gear kicks in above 120km/h, but high speed is not that important to me anyway.

    So, I am hoping if anyone had done the research could help me out with this engine swap details..............

    I'm not aware of euro-spec 8g galants with the 2.0 V6? Mine is the 2.0 4G63...

    Mitsubishi took the unusual descision in the far eastern markets (Taiwan, China, etc) of fitting the 2.0 6A12 V6 to the top of the line Galants. This is the only region where the 6A12 was used in a Galant.

    There's the Galant SEi, which is a sporty version of the Galant, based more on the JDM-Market Mitsubishi Aspire (The Aspire is a JDM Galant with more chrome and bling bits - a sort of Galant 'Vanden-Plas' or Galant 'Ghia' if you like) and there's also the Galant VR-M, which uses the 6A12 MIVEC engine, as used in the FTO GPX.

    The Galant VR-M's closest UK relation would be a facelit V6-24, like Andy's (The VEE), but wearing pre-facelift bumpers like Ian's car. Other differences being no sunroof, no electric seats, circular foglamps rather than rectangular ones, Hi-Contrast clocks and Climate control. The INVECS-II was an option, with the sports-tiptonic gate.

    No other markets, not even Japan, had the 2.0 6A12 V6 in a Galant.

    Kieran is correct about 6A12 V6 SOHC in Galant, only parts of Asia gets this engine. So is there anyway I can get more info about 6A13 V6 SOHC 2.5L engine that UK 8G Galant is using? Such as error codes from the 2.5L ECU? If my 6A12 2.0L Galant has same error code as UK 2.5L Galant, I would assume the ECU to be identical.

    The 8G Galant I have is an 2004 model, last of JDM spec 8G Galant, manufactured by Mitsubishi Taiwan. The model is called Galant SEi, 6A12 V6 SOHC 24 valves 2.0L engine, 142hp/5500rpm, 18.6kg-m/5000rpm, INVECS-II 4spd Auto, ABS, Power windows, Power sunroof, Leather seats, Rectangular foglamps, VR4 rear spolier, Rear bumper sensors, 15" mag+tires.

    Only the more luxury EXi model gets equipments like; Power leather driver seat, Wooden-look dash, Climate control, High contrast dash, TCL, Auto-turn on headlights, Airbags, Wireless phone, Rear windshield sunblock, Front & Rear bumper sensors.

    Both SEi and EXi gets same engine, as you can see that 6A12 doesn't provide enough power for Galant, 0-100kph at 10.65sec, 1/4mile at 18sec, its slow. So 6A12 MIVEC became the easiest way to performance upgrade, since 6A12 MIVEC once was installed in Galant VR-M, the mod had been practised often, with nearly 30 Galants now wearing heart of MIVEC, but most Galant owners who desire extra power would go with another option is to install 6A13 VR4 engine, technically is more difficult to achieve because the installation of AWD system. Most owners go with FWD VR4 to prevent headache with AWD, there had been some 20 Galant successfully install 6A13 VR4 engine into 2.0 chassis here in Taiwan.

    Thats about all I know, but I'm sure no one has done 6A13 SOHC into 2.0 chassis, and I just like to know the possibility to do so................

    Um... Yes they do, theres hundreds of the things in NZ. I'm assuming you mean the later chassis though, the E84 is most commonly found WITH the 6A12. All jap imports.


    But seriously - Why go for the lower-tech 2.5 engine? It still wouldnt be much of a performer, especially mated to an auto transmission.... Have you thought of moving up a size to the 3 litre mivec engine found in some JDM diamantes? They're 205kW in stock form, and still quite tourque-y (Is that a word ), And a HUGE step up over the 2.5 SOHC, or most N/A engines for that matter. Physical size of it isnt much more than most 2.5s anyway, and a HEAP less than the GTO 3 litre engine.

    Yes, thats the kinda of info I need. I was only assuming possible 2.5 engine swap to 8G galant, if Diamante 3.0 engine could be a more efficient swap, I would be glad to know how, and what parts are required for such procedure.

    Can anyone help with the info?
