    W: Old intake plenum gasket.

    Hi guys!
Has anyone got old intake plenum gasket?
I'm about to make few phenolic thermo gasket for our 6A13TT engines. Never really tested, so worth to try.
Got quite cheap sheet of G10 compound thick 0.125in.
I need old one gasket to got dimensions and make a model.
    Appreciated!
    Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
    Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar

    what is G10 compound sheet.

i have some 2oz copper clad FR4 PCB board , that i was going to use to make a gesket for my car. i was working on the theory that the ally would bite in to the copper when the bolts are done up and create the seal. if not then a thin bead of instant gasket would be good enough to seal the joint.

but like most things i haven't got round to it yet.

    Bye for Now!

Dave, G10 is the same as FR4 if I got it right. FR4 refers to PCB, but technically G10 is category for all industry usage.
I have 1.6mm PCB sheets, one copper side.
So far my plans are to to make "multilayer" gasket: stock new one onto head, then FR4 facing copper down, then another FR4 facing copper up, then silicone paste or another stock new gasket and finally intake plenum. Yes, I guessed as you did, that copper facing alloy will do bond, but IMO it's more likely to do corrosion on alloy surface as well, so I binned that idea, and went with 2nd stock steel gasket.
It will rise intake plenum approx 4mm, so rear mounting bolt issue, but nothing major otherwise.

Eric, I'm going down south to London on 31 March, I'll pick up one if it's ok with you on that day, give you PM.
    Thanks!

    that make sense Tomas.

but i think to make the heat transfer difference more noticeable you will have to cover the plenum in some kind of heat shield material, as the normal heat soak from the engine bay hot air will make the plenum hot anyway even if it does not soak it up from the inlet manifold.

oh and bypass the throttle body heating water pipes as this is going to heat up the plenum as well.

Both issues considered as well Dave.
    1. I have vented bonnet, hence quite good hot air disposal.
    2. I'm going also to make FR4 gasket between throttle body and intake plenum. One layer will do a job.

that will isolate the throttle body nicely.

i found when i was making gaskets with FR4, the easiest way to get the first prototype made with out any measuring is as follows,

    1. place gasket material over the required mating surface of plenum. mark 2 of the mounting hole.
    2. drill the 2 mounting holes, check alignment.
    3. bolt gasket to plenum, mark the rest of the mounting holes through plenum.
4.unbolt from plenum and drill the rest of the mounting holes, check alignment.
    5. bolt up gasket again, roughly mark up gasket for airway openings, leaving a good 5mm of material to the edge of the airways.
    6. unbolt gasket, rough cut out the plenum airway openings.
    7. bolt up gasket again, get a flap wheel sander attachment on a drill and start sanding the gasket airway openings. you can use the internal bore of the plenum to sand up to, to generate a perfect first gasket.
    8. use the first gasket to draw round to make perfect copies of the first gasket. you can jigsaw (with a fine blade) the rest of the gaskets knowing they are going to fit.

Well, maybe I take one from you Paul. Any reason for a nice chat is good...
BTW, have you got old throttle body gasket too?

    Dave, thanks for tips.
