    Input shaft bearing help

    Hi all,

Just a quick question, is it possible to change the input shaft bearing on a 2.5 V6 without removing the gearbox? I'm going to have a go at it tomorrow. Is there a How To guide anywhere?

    Cheers, Oz

I think you will have to more specific about what you consider to be the "input shaft bearing" as there have been a couple of threads on here recently and people were talking about completely different things and referring to them both as "input shaft bearings"

    Bye for Now!

Its the bearing on the manual V6 that is prone to failing. Gearbox end of the drivers side driveshaft.

AFAIK the input shaft bearing that fails is the one just inside the bellhousing on the input shaft. What you are talking about sounds like the output shaft. I'm certain that the box has to come out for the input shaft bearing and reasonably certain the same is true of the output shaft bearing.

Sorry my mistake, it would be the output shaft. Its related to the noisy drivers side wheel thread that I posted a few days ago.

Its definitely not the wheel bearing or CV joints. There's a rumble when you spin the wheel by hand so it can only be the output shaft bearing presumably. Its getting a lot louder now so it needs sorting ASAP.

I was hoping i wouldn't have to drop the gearbox. Oh well, some more time on the garage floor coming up!

im confused. the bearing that fails is the input shaft bearing. you have to pull the box out and dismantle it to do it.

obviouslt any bearing inside the gearbox needs to have the box removed to replace!

Yep, my fault. I'm fairly new to working on this car. And as they're isn't a Haynes manual available, I'm struggling to find the info I need.

Has anyone got access to CAPS to check the part number? I can't find a working version of it anywhere!

Adaxo, you're a legend! Just the info I was looking for. Should hopefully have the gearbox off tomorrow so that should make things a bit easier.

I managed to source a bearing from Redditch for £10.99 delivered, a genuine NSK jobbie too.

    Cheers for the help!
