I need a new trolley jack!

Need a new trolley jack. Welded mine up for the last time the other day and now the place where the wheel mounted has broken. It also leaks a little so gradually comes down over time, although of course I always have stands.

So, what to replace it with? Had this one for about 6 years - the usual £19-99 motorfactor type one. I think this time I'd like to replace it with some thing that drops a bit lower, raises higher and will stand a bit more abuse. Any recommendations?
Believed to be the only PFL Legnum parked on my drive unless you know otherwise.

I'd say stick with the cheap ones and replace every so often. The more expensive ones are nice but they still wear out eventually.

i would recomend a 2 ton aluminum, low front, high lift jack, like the one i have, i wouldn't be without it now and i would gladly replace it every couple of years for £84 inc VAT from costco.

very similar to the aluminum racing jack from machine mart. but that is about £90 and only 1.25ton rated.

Won't fit under some cars and don't lift high enough.

Now, someone else was telling me to go to Costco - so you have one of them, Dave, and you reckon it's OK? I know someone who bought the Clark ally jack and had it fail 2 or 3 times on them in various ways.

What's the maximum height on the Costco one?

Yeah, definitely want something bigger than the little trolley jack. I spend too much time under various cars now to fart around with those

i will have to do a pic and measure it tomorrow. i would recommend it, to anyone. it has saved me soo much time over the last year.

i think it is an arcan jack but i can't find it on the web, there are some 3 ton jacks for about £80 but they are nit aluminium and will probably be very heavy. i have a dodgy back which is why i went for an aluminium one.

I just bought 2 days ago the lightweight 'clarke' aluminium one from Machine Mart.. seems very well put together and lifts nice n' hight very easy, and the low clearance access is good..

The costco near me no longer stock the aluminium racing one, which is a shame as it looked like a very very good jack

hey had another one in stock for a while, but after a couple of months the arcon ally one came back in stock and bought one straight away.

Well, I went for the Costco (Arcan) one in the end. Not an ally one, but steel. 3 tonne - way more than I need - but fantastically low and high! (about 9cm lowest over 50 highest). £60+ vat. Used it today, and can't believe I've made do with crappy little trolley jacks in the past.

It make life so much easier.

sorry i didn't get the pics up, but i have been busy ubder my car.

the ally jack has exactly the height and lift 9cm to 50cm, 4.5 pumps to go from lowest point to highest point. can't beat it. but it is only 2 tons (1814kg some american measure, ton not a metric tonne).

    1 metric tonne = 1000kg
1 ton UK (long ton) =1017kg
    1 ton US (short ton) = 907kg

Costco don't really show products on their site, but this is what they're selling: http://www.harrisonshomewares.com/ar...nal-1237-p.asp
