I need a new screen, for both TV and gaming. Needs to be 40".

Anyone know of any good deals at the moment ?

For the combination of picture quality and price, I can't recommend one of the Samsung LED backlit TVs highly enough, they are very reasonably priced (especially the older shape) and the image quality is nothing short of phenomenal, exceptional HD quality and good SD quality.

I can probably find you some very competitive prices on them if I get a few minutes tonight.

Mark, to be completely honest the best thing you can do is arrange a few product demos - or at least go and ask to play with them in-store. THey all much of a muchness these days, so it's a personal choice.

We just got the Samsung LE37B550 - although they do a 40" (£520) which is exactly the same spec but bigger screen. Richer sounds is my normal fav place to get hi-fi/TV's from:

    http://www.richersounds.com/product/.../sams-le40b550

I did a lot of research and this one came out top everywhere I looked. don't get the 530 range though, only the 550 models as the screen is not as good on the 530's

    Oh these are LCD's
why fix it the right way first time - when excessive swearing can occour when it all goes wrong when you don't?

Now with 5.7 liters of V8 muscle

    That would be great, thanks.

Swapped from a 42" Samsung to a 42" Panasonic last year (both Plasma) and considerably better picture quality. The Samsung was a few years old by then though.

Best advice though is to go for a demo of a few to see the differences. I guess if was to buy again today I would still go Panasonic or Sony.

Of course if you want the ultimate, then there is the Pioneer range, all over £1500 - but depends on your budget.
