my car is broken :-( ***NOW FIXED***

i am so gutted. i've managed to crash the car a week before japfest ;-(

i was at a junction waiting to pull out, i looked either way and the road was clear (so i thought ). a blithering old man in a audi came out from nowhere and i hit him as he was turning into the junction.

i've not long come back from the garage who will be doing the work on my car. on first looks, i will need a new front bumper and bonnet. we did not open the bonnet to have a look inside, just in case we couldn't close it again. as im driving to wales in the car tomorrow. the really bad news is, the car might not be ready for japfest. he said that trying to get the parts will be the hard part. as he had never seen a vr4 before. i asked him, if i could source the bonnet and bumper, could he fix it n time? "it all depends on what damage is behind the bumper" he said. hopefully nothing is damaged.

here are a few pics of my poorly car

do you all think that it could be fixed by the 14th, ready for japfest?

From what I can see in the photo, that bonnet is fixable.
I had the same problem with mine about 2 years ago ( nudged the rail in nurburg).
I went to a professional panel beater, mate of mine for a quote, and in about 10 minutes he had the bonnet back level with the wings.
All it entailed was placing a length of 4" x 4" under the leading edge of the bonnet and applying pressure to the the 2 high spots on the bonnet.
Give it a go, you've got nothing to lose.
Now the bumper, thats another matter.

Agreed with the above - the bonnet looks entirely fixable to me.

Further more, that bumper does, too....and you may not even have to take it off the car.

Get a hot air gun, or you halogent inspection lights out and get it nice and warm. Then gently push it out from behind. As long as the crash bar is okay, that'll pop back out.

    Then you go to Japfest.

Then you get it sanded, filled and painted, and nobody will be any the wiser.

I didn't believe it was that easy until PSB talked me into it. I figured I had nothing to lose.

    Taff,
Gutted to hear your story. If I can help just call - you have the number. I'm home most days.
Japfest: Of course if you drop out you'll elevate me to the stand - but I too have a damaged bumper but don't care about it - Go on - Take it as it is these cars are more about go, than show.

Hopefully given the quite substantial crash bar behind there it will just be what you can see, good luck.

I had a low speed bump in mine a few years ago, traffic stopping and starting, 5pm into the back of the guy in front (my fault totally), the bumper had a little crack in the paint, but when the bumper came off a few months later for some work to be done, the crash bar had a big ding in it and it was bent!. I got a new one and replaced it. but a low speed bum will bend the front bar. You could sort the bonnet and the bumper and check out or replace the bar at a later date, a few folk on here with bonnets and front bumpers available.

Hope you get it sorted ok. Doesn't look too bad + from the pics I doubt you will even need to replace any panels. Anything is repairable!

gutted for you mate, hope all goes well. bring it to japfest it is all about the "Crack", the cars come second (unless you are going out on track).

if i am honest my car is probably of of the shediest VR4 on the road, dodgy paint, parking dings on every panel and bad drash repair, but it is my "susane" and i would not miss japfest for anything this year.

i might even give it a wash before i come down on saturday morning, from manchester. i am not saying i will but i might. the only down side to washing it is, it will probably rain, it always rains just after i wash my car. i would rather have a dirty car than have to rain on saturday

    Bye for Now!

Who cares though, these cars were built to be driven. My old evo had more hits than the beatles but I loved that car + even though it has been written off since, I would still buy it back. Its the mechanical side that matters. If I make it, I can assure you I aint gonna bother cleaning mine
