Purchasing a UK car and exporting to Germany

Probably one for Lee, this. But I have someone from Germany interested in my car. They have put in an offer via eBay which is too low but I feel we may be able to find a middle ground. However, before I respond, she has said that the transfer of the car from the UK to Germany is expensive. Is this true? What's involved and what are the costs? I would have thought with the weak pound against the Euro that she would be getting a bargain ...

Being honest Wayne if they were serious they would be talking of geting flights into the UK and driving back. Just my opinion.

    Waaaay cheaper than a haulier.

    I may be wrong though

Possibly. I don't want to jump to any conclusions though as the guy (from Austria) who bought my white VR-4 seemed a bit suspect to start with from the messages on eBay but actually turned out to be fine. At least this potential buyer has 100% feedback rating on eBay.

Wayne, I think I can share some light as I did "export" LandRover for my bro in Poland.
You car is registered, has tax and valid mot.
So buyer may just ride car to Germany. Cost is fuel and ferry

What he needs is V5C (you keep that bit informing about car export). Also you will need to make "contract" or recepit in two languages, you know..."I Wayne... am selling Mitsubishi Galant VR4, chasis no..., to Mr X Y, etc, for amount..... date, both signatures"
Buyer may need that contract to register his car in Germany. I'm not sure if it's necessary there, but i.e. you will need one in PL, CZ and SK.
Then buyer needs to buy temporary insurance (1 or 2 days) to cover his drive home (Aviva, AA, RAC will do online).

And to peace of mind you will need to notice by letter DVLA that you sold your car abroad attaching copy of that "contract" and that slip from from V5C.

    That's all I remember.
    Ex: Galant VR4
Running 268 HP ATW and 443 Nm torque at 0.9 bar
    Now: Lancer Evolution 8 FQ-300
Running 325 HP ATW and 510 Nm torque at 1.6 bar

Worth a check on the value of these cars over there Wayne. I sold a GTo to a guy from germany- it sold for like £1300 so you can tell it wasnt a clean one- but they still command a huge premium in Germany.

    Cheers,

    Ben.
