    Inner rod end/steering rack end

    Hi Guys,

Just had the track rod ends changed due to play in the front wheels. After they were changed there was still a little play, the mechanic said this would be the inner rod end..... I assume this is the same as the steering rack end?

above is a link for the Camskill part, I assume I would also need the boot as below:

Any advice would be much appreciated.......

    Cheers

Yeah I know, but if the boot is damaged in the replacement then I could be stuck...... and if the mechanic does manage to replace it with out damage then I have spares for the future.

£11 not much for peace of mind........ Thanks for the advice though, much appreciated.......

They do go brittle, and the new ones always feel far more likely to last. I'd say for the money, put new boots on too. Not necessary, but nice to do whilst you are there.

My feeling as well. Half the time they seem to split when being removed and our weather does not help

I've already paid out for the set from Camskills, although much like my reasoning for buying the boots, I know Camskills do quality parts....... the track rod ends were far better quality than the OEM ones fitted, the new ones can be services/greased........ I hope the same could be said for the rods......

Thanks for the heads up though.......

It's not the worst job to do yourself - just access can be a bit tricky. Make sure you get the tracking done afterwards though!

I was going to do the track rod ends myself, relatively easy job, however I took it to a garage as I needed it doing quick and until my driveway is resurfaced I havent the space...... Looking at the track rods unless you can lift the car (safely) I would give it to a decent garage........ Looking at them on Monday it is very tight under there....... so I'm taking mine back to the garage and have the tracking done at the same time.....
