If you plan on upping the boost (and/or you have other mods like intercooler/exhaust done before remapping) then yeah, the stock pump starts struggling a little up high and can't deliver the fuel you need.

Standard fuel pump is good for around 190kW (260PS) at the wheels, think that was the most the You See made before he had to upgrade his, this was with a standalone ECU I believe.

Kenneth's old Galant also made 191.9kW (~260PS) at the wheels on standard fuel pump. If you're aiming for big power - then you have to upgrade it.

Unless your gonna be sorting the fueling out straight away, I wouldn't' bother. As it with more than probably just make the car over fuel more than normal..

    yes mate..

Remapping or a piggyback ecu or fuel controller.. But with the latter 2 you would need a wideband to monitor fuelling to see what it's doing and alter it with either a piggyback or fuel controller. The extra pressure of the uprated pumps normally makes the car over fuel.
If your going down the root of a remap then wait until then to install the pump at the same time.. That way you can be sure that that pump is not doing more harm to power and economy, rather than good..

To be honest, if you're fitting a replacement fuel pump, it's more than worth considering fitting a decent fuel reg.

The factory one has been on there donkeys, and I don't doubt that an uprated pump can result in excessive richness, as the factory reg isn't designed for the sort of pressure a high-flow pump can generate. It's also not designed for the sort of boost pressures it's going to see either.

If this is the way you intend to go then why not see if Gowf's still got his Sard AFPR from his breaker. Could save you a few quid if he has else search on e-bay, RHD Japan, etc - all the usual places and more will stock them. Be aware that there have been some copies floating about in the past.
