    Is this not the Air Flow Sensor situated in the box behind the air filter? - see pic below. The AFS can become contaminated, especially if you've changed the induction system for a freer-flowing one and extremely likely if you've installed an oil-primed mesh air filter.

    any idea whats inside? and what to do to it? i changed the airfilter for an hks one so maybe your gonna be my hero!

    Pretty sure it's a sealed unit and you just buy another one from the dealer, or have him fit it INSERT INTO post VALUES (may need to hook the car up to the Mitsubishi diagnostic system to reset the error code).
