    Quick Q

    Guys,

Looking to head over there soon, would be coming over on a one year working visa with the option of extending it to two years, or if i like it staying for good.

Basically want to be around auckland, most likely the north shore and travel to work if need be via the Ferry service....

I dont want to live near people, i want where ever is quiet, and i mean fields and a barn quiet? But still has easy access to ameneites if need be? It would be for rental rather than purchase...

    Where would you recommend?

Just to add not just limited to auckland, the south island might actually suit my needs better its going to depend if i decide to chase a career in the city, or grow a vegtable patch and earn enough money to pay rent in a bar or supermarket etc....

If you want to live out of the city and work in Auckland then you are going to need to look at places like Clevedon, Karaka, Dairy Flat, or out west in Waitakere.

Outside of Auckland, I have no idea!
If I'm replying to your thread and helping you out, it is because I like you and want to help out your VR-4 ownership. No other reason

Lots of close to city but live in the country type places around here in Christchurch. All depends on what sort of commute times you are wanting.
I'm not arguing...I'm just offering an endless series of contrary points of view.

    Wellington?

Can live in the Wairarapa and work in the city, or even live on the Kapiti Coast and work in the city. A lot of people I know live in both areas and commute every morning.. Have trains and buses that are usually on time..

This is going to to into a weird sort of bidding war. Christchurch has it all. In summer it's summery and we have a decent choice of various types of beaches. Not any as nice as can be found north of Auckland but not bad.

In winter we have the only decent ski fields in the country. If you're coming from the UK our winters will be milder I think.

In the Spring/Autumn the cities many many gardens and parks whore themselves shamelessly.

In general the South Island is much more picturesque and basing yourself in chch you're well placed to see it all.

Chch is a big city (for NZ) but it doesn't feel like one, it just feels like a town.

We don't have a rush hour here. more like 30mins and even then its only a couple of streets most peole know to avoid.

If you want to live on the shore and be away from everyone you will need to be at dairy flat, but that is hardly an easy commute to the city! By the sounds of it you want to be out west - piha, Swanson, kumeu, scenic drive kind of area

Much of a muchness distance wise re Kumeu and Dairy Flat... both routes will encounter heavy traffic en route to and from the city.

Piece of cake to avoid all of that in CHCH. Oh and we have a very nice local test track as well as Ruapuna if you're so inclined.

Does Auckland actually have a race track or do you have to travel for it.

Chch airport is all of 10mins from the city. Hell one of us will probably volunteer to pick you up.

I would say go to Nelson/Marlborough. Amazing weather, and right in wine country. If you can handle never seeing snow again

There's a ski field not TOO far away from either, but yes, the season is a lot shorter than the more main stream fields.

Hey Marlborough has Rainbow ski field it small and not many people use it so lots of space.

CHCH definitely the place to be lots of rural areas close to town. and ski fields beaches harbour everything you want really with out the masses of Polynesians like in Auckland.

Auckland you would want waitakere city.
