    Pulley next to aircon pulley?

Ok, can someone please tell me what the big pulley that is next to the aircon pulley called and do please?

As mine makes a noise like the exhaust is blowing when you let off or rev to around 4000rpm then let of.

How easy is it to fix and can I get a new one?

It`s also moves slightly from side to side when touched.

    Any help would be great.

Sorry forgot to take a picture.

Very likely you're talking about pas tensioner pulley. Change for new one every 20k miles according to Mitsu IIRC.
Nothing extraordinary, 70 quid less in pocket.

Sounds good, but when you get hold of it you can move it by around 5-7mm just like a pulley is working loose, if that makes any sense?

PAS (air con) tensioner pulley ain't difficult to change. Check on in club members article about drivebelt change. IMO, easy peasy job.

And must disagree - shouldn't be any play in tensioner bearing. If there's any - bearing has gone.

PAS (air con) tensioner pulley looks like that one:

Your a top bloke Thomaz many thanks.

There is a fair amount of play when you twist it by holding it either side it does move a fair few mm`s plus the noise is quit loud.

Obviously you need new one. No doubt. Spare few quid and buy new belt as well.

Swinks is correct ...... you shouldn't have any play in the idler pulley. I'd be careful and get it fixed pretty quickly - you really don't want any of those belts coming off as it's possible for them to get wrapped up with the others and even potentially the cambelt.

I've had belts snap on numerous occasions on track at high speed - was lucky that no serious damage was ever done. However, I've also had a belt go and it's got tangled in the cambelt and I ended up with needing a new engine!

    Have a look here: http://homepage.mac.com/rgdavies2000...engine/G_4.jpg

5 years ago I made the mistake of my life: bought the new pulley, because I felt the play in it and the guy from the dealership said that there shouldn't be any. But to my big surprise, the new one had exactly the same amount of play as the old one! So I went back to Mitsi and we took all the PAS pulleys he had on the shelf (3) and found play in them all!

Might be the lucky coincidence, of course...

They are a peace of pish to change all you need is a 14 socket and ratchet.

Slacken the bolt in center of pully.
There is an adjuster bolt under the pully undo that bolt and just keep on undoing untill belt is slack.
Remove the bolt in center of pully
    Remove pully
Then just put back to gether again with new pully.
Sorry cant rember the stated tension for the bolts.

Thanks guys for all your help and advice, changed for another one but the one on the car was loose so it could of been that but I did`nt take any chances it got changed.

Problem is the noise is still there but I know its not any pulleys must be the old downpipes I`ve put on and probably a heat shield or something. Anyway piece of mind knowing the pulley`s done!

Also got a good dose old AMSoil, flush & filter as the old stuff was blacker than black, sounds sweeter now.
