New to this, but have some VR4 issues

    Hi Guys,

I'm Lachlan, I have owned a 1997 Galant VR4 for 3 years now, and I have had problems after problems with it due to lack of care from its previous owner.
But a nasty sound has developed somewhere under the front seats. It sounds quite raspy, as if something has worn out.
Since I have owned it I have replaced the Diff, Clutch, Gearbox, and many other minor things.
If someone can shine some light on what this might be, that would be great!

    Thanks

Not much under the seat. Exhaust and transfer box are the closest, possibly propshaft.

Is it quite a major to replace the transfer case?

It is a bit hard to say for certain what it is at the moment. Does it increase linearly with car speed?
If I'm replying to your thread and helping you out, it is because I like you and want to help out your VR-4 ownership. No other reason

If it IS the transfer case, its easier to change than a clutch or gearbox, as it has to come off to do either of them anyway.

Yeah the noise does increase with speed. It almost feels like there is resistance in the drive, like it doesn't coast very well anymore. I don't know if it is just me though.
