Yep, used to work for mitsi & they had no end of issues with the bottom end on the old shape ones. New ones are brilliant but far more money. I would always recommend buying a Mitsubishi car or commercial, other than this shape L200. As much as I hate to say it, Nissan Navara drives better, has less issues, better spec (unless you can track down an Animal (which gains abs) or a warrior), cheaper & better turning circle! Basically, if you can find one with a power upgrade (took from 115bhp to 135bhp) & just had some work done, great, buy it as they hold there value better & look better, if not, play it safe & buy the Nissan

Yep, Toyotas are bullet proof but tend to be a bit basic. Can't go far wrong with either really but the Top Gears test was about as extreme as you can get. Its a shame they don't still make their cars to the same high standard today. Oh yeah & if you take a look at a Nissan, if you can, try & get it up on ramps to check out the steering if its a higher mileage example.

    Difficulty is funds.......

Navara's and the like are fine but a little out my price range. Hi-Lux I agree is a wicked truck but id need a Surf to fulfill my requirements.

The L200 I been looking at is a twin cab thing, very clean, low mileage. snugtop included. A part x with my 54 plate combo would be near as dammit a swap. Im going to see it tomorrow and go for a test drive, see what its like. Ive never driven 1 before, never know I may not like it anyway.

The L200s are massively thirsty for what they are, as well. I've only taken out two, but was surprised how quickly it chonks through diesel...especially as it was comparable to the 4.x litre Nissan Patrol I'd been driving earlier!

You will average approx 28mpg without anything in the buck or towing. With a full load & towing, not much difference, probably about 25mpg. The ride is far smoother with weight in the back so I would recommend taking the bars off the back, sticking them on ebay & weighing it down a bit with a truckman style back. You will notice a huge improvement. Joys of being leaf sprung! Also, make sure its a uk spec. There were a lot of these built for Cyprus that got brought across & I don't know how (as not a mechanic) but I seem to remember them being spec'd differently so issues with starting them on cold mornings. Maybe different coils or no glow?!
