Is the VR4 V6 the same as a Standard V6?

    Hi all.

Got my site membership yesterday and the info looks great. Thanks guys for putting it together.

Obviously this site is aimed more at VR4 owners, and just wanted to know if the twin turbo V6 is the same underneath the engine cover as the standard V6 fitted in my 2001 Sport. I much prefer the engine cover on the TT, are they interchangable?

    TIA

Don't think so, I'm afraid, though a VR4 one is generally bigger so MIGHT be able to fit.

Of course, the trouble you'll gave is actually FINDING one that isn't broken......they're like rocking horse poo.

The heads and rocker covers are different. The cover will not be an easy fit. It would potentially be easier to customise your V6 cover.

ok i can live with the cover as it is, was just curious.

But stuff like spark plugs, cambelt change etc are all the same? Just the cylinder heads are different?

The cambelt change will be similar, although the cambelt is a different length, having only two camshafts to turn, rather than the VR-4's four.

Spark plugs are the same fitment, size-wise, but a slightly different spec - VR-4 is gapped to 0.8mm, whereas the V6 is 1.1mm. Common iridium plug is BKR6EIX-11 (for the V6 - VR-4 ones are BKR6EIX). Still have to take the intake plenum off, but less in the way re turbo pipes!

    Cheers for the info.

Need to pick up an O2 sensor and give it a full service, and the tip box as well and it should be mint.
